Show GSGMUTi! M'JS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net There were so many people here for the 24th of July celebration celebra-tion that I will continue with some of that this time and if any of you have other news please give me a call. I saw part of Betty R. Alvey's family at the park after the dedication ded-ication ceremony. Irene Tait and family, South Jordan; Johnny Alvey and family, Palmdale, California; Tony Alvey, Wyoming; Betty's sister and brother-in-law, Wavie and Ralph Siple, Idaho, and Ferrell Roundy, Taft, Ca. The Daniel and Orilla Cowles family had a family reunion in Richfield on July 23rd and most of them came here the following day for the celebration. This included the families of Leon Cowles, Portland, Oregon; Twila Michelangelo, Alvin Cowles and Newell Cowles, all of the Richfield area; Colleen Imlay, Wyoming, Emma Lou Mclnelly, Ellensburg, Washington and Margean Schow, Escalante. Ray and Lois Barney had all of their family here: Steve and Tacie Barney and a son, Mike and Elizabeth Herion and two sons, all of Kaysville, and Cindy Black and family, from California. Elizabeth sang with Jeanette Griffin Braithwaite in the dedication dedi-cation program. They did a great job with songs from all the branches of the armed forces. Gerald and Sylvia Haycock, Sandy, were also visitors at the Barney home on the weekend. Don Haws had his grandson, Wesley Groth of Killeen, Texas, here. He took him to Salt Lake to catch a flight back home last Tuesday. Bill and Dawn Griffin had part of their family here. I'm not sure which ones except I heard that Jeanette Braithwaite and her brother Randy Griffin, St. George, sang in the First Ward Sacrament ! Meeting on Sunday. Velma Boulter took a trip to Las Vegas with a granddaughter, Miriam Lund and her daughter, Sondra Boulter, Provo. Upon leaving Las Vegas they went on back to Provo, taking Velma with them, then Sondra brought her back home for the celebration. celebra-tion. Janet Porter (wife of Haws Porter), Provo, had part of her family here for a few days. Ron and-Linda Mecham, Las Vegas, Nevada, had most of their family here at the Starns Mecham family home. I didn't get a head count but they have 11 children and only two of them (I think) were not here. So with 1 1 children, their spouses, their children and grandchildren, grandchil-dren, who had time to count? (I can tell you that I can't think of a one of them we could do without!) with-out!) The family of the late Dee and Elda Haws spread their annual family reunion out before AND after the celebration. celebra-tion. These were the families of Klyn and Marlene Haws, Don and Ethel Haws, Phyllis and Freland Alvey, Ray and Lois Barney and Jean Dutton. They had around 45 in attendance. The EHS Class of '54 held their class reunion at The Wild West Retreat, with dinner and visiting. They also decorated a float and rode on it in the Parade on Saturday. This group included: includ-ed: Richard (Dick) Lyman, Rolain Alvey, Gordon and Almeda Haycock, all of Escalante; Joan Davis Schow, St. George; Vonda and Elwood Willis, Glenwood; Ed and Phyllis Jarrett, Kingston; Vernon and Peg Roundy, Monroe; Sherrill and Dorothy Jean Alvey, Layton; Bill and Virginia Spencer King, Orem, and Duane and Jackie Woolsey Jones, Roy. 17 in all. The other three Woolsey girls (sisters of Jackie) Carrie; Corrine and Cloma were all here to celebrate also. ( Didn't get their husbands names, that I should keep from year to year. Sorry! Next time!) Sue Mosier tells me the prize winners in the parade were as follows: Most Original -Griffin Shoot Out; Most Humorous - The Lawn Chair Brigade; Best Family Float -The Porter Family Train; Best use of the theme - Kim Randall, and The Sweepstakes Winner was the Veterans Float (Padre Motel). Congratulations to all. It was a great parade. Ben and Renee Porter, Cal and Martha Schow, Gene and Thais Griffin, J. C. And Eva Haws had their, families here. (Anyone else? I know there were others!) Eva Dean Liston had the families of Steve and Beth Blakey, Springville; Jimmy and Amy Alvey, Mapleton; and Johnny and Peggy Griffin Meisenbach, Santa Ana, California were there part time. Beth and Peggy were able to get together with Annalee Spencer Knudsen, Mayfield and Christine Droubay, St. George, for a little reunion of their own. It was good to see Orpha Munson Spencer, Mesa, (See ESCALANTE on page 5A) Escalante From Page 4A Arizona. She hasn't been here for quite some time. Names of others: Harold and Inarene Griffin, St. George; Deloy Spencer and his sister, Betty Jean Dowdell, Orem; Garl and Patsy Cottam, Provo; Marlow and Christa Schow, Lois and Garth Peterson, Lana Lord, Blake and Betty Schow, Ivan and Lucille Davenport, all of Salt Lake; -Steve and Cheryl Roundy Cox and Richard Barker and his wife all of St. George. Pat and Shauna Perkins, Desert Springs, Az.; Jim and Jolyn Spencer, Johnny Spencer and family, Orem; Stuart and Karma Bailey, Fillmore. Some are still wondering who the driver of the truck was pulling the float for the class of '49. Not to worry folks! He was Conrad Jepsen, son of Alfred and Connie. The USO dance held on Saturday July 24th claimed a smaller attendance than was expected, but those who attended attend-ed said it was fun. A band from Oak City and pictures of all the service men on the walls, not to mention the good company! And no one charged a dime a dance! |
