Show p.wcmjeu 0ot By Earl Roe 676-2376 wearlroeyahoo.com I thought that I would surely get reports of more class reunions held over the July 24th weekend due to the number of classes riding on floats in the parade, but "nary a word was spoken (sent or written)." I did; however, get a report on a family reunio from Usher and Dorothy (Riddle) Henrie of Richfield. They sent word of a reunion honoring their parents, Usher and Frieda Henrie over the 24th weekend. (This is why we knew the present Usher as Junior while he was growing up in Panguitch) The families of three of Usher and Freida's six children were riding on the longest float in the parade., 50 of the Usher Henrie Jr. family; six of the Douglas D. Henrie family, and 22 of the Jed E. Henrie family. ., Their sister, Fern, was unable to be here due to her husband having hav-ing undergone surgery recently and two brothers, Jimmy Dick and Douglas have both passed away. Their families were missed! The reunion ended up at the site of the old family ranch on Kanab Creek where the boys spent many happy summers helping their dad with his sheep. Dawna Barney included a brief account of their class reunion, but I had already reported it; however she did tell me that they had lost eight members mem-bers of their class since graduation. gradua-tion. She commented on how much fun reunions are when you can share memories of the good old days. (The stories will get better every reunion, Dawna.) Karl and JoAnne (Dowdell) McAllister of Las Vegas and Lucille Tebbs of St.George were among the many former residents resi-dents who came "home " to enjoy the activities and visit with family and friends. JoAnne's sister, Donna (Dowdell) Smith, was unable to come with them this year, but sends her regards to all of her friends. Donna recently celebrated cele-brated her 80th birthday during an evening at the Las Vegas Mirage with her family. George Cherrington is another anoth-er "Panguitchite" who makes the 24th another homecoming day. He always makes it a point to find me since I sort of grew up with the family. We lived across the street from each other for several years. George is the sole survivor of Alf and Cleta Cherington's three sons (Bob and George. Julian lost his life when a kamikaze struck the aircraft air-craft carrier Saratoga during WWII. Pat Oetting, community coordinator coor-dinator for the "various events which Panguitch sponsors each year and members of the various committees are planning some projects of building props that can be used by everyone in making mak-ing their particular event more interesting and more typical of the pioneer spirit of Panguitch. To accomplish this, they need a lot of old weathered lumber (barnwood) and . old corral poles. They will tear down any old buildings to obtain this material and will give donation receipts (for tax purposes) to anyone making donations of these materials. They are extending this request to any and all communities in our area. If you can help fill these needs in any way, or have an old structure struc-ture you would like removed, please call call Pat at 676-2418 or Panguitch City Office at 676-8585. 676-8585. (Their slogan "Have wrecking bar, will travel!") Phil Norton came to let me know that his father, Dexter Norton, had passed away and his funeral was held in Tooele. I knew Dexter when we were boys and his family (Mert Norton) lived in our neighborhood neighbor-hood before moving to Provo. I met him again on Guam in 1944 and had not had any contact since that time until I met him in the H&k two years, ago and thought he looked familiar so I spoke to him to find out why. Evalyn and I have been waiting wait-ing for several months to learn when our oldest son Russell was going to bring a new daughter-in-law into the family. The date of Aug. 14 was finally set, but we were not sure we could make it to Omaha so we talked him into coming to Panguitch to get married in the St George LDS Temple,. They will have an Open House here so that family and friends can meet Debbie. They will then return to Omaha for their reception. (By the time you read this, they should be here.) Evalyn and I also made a quick trip to Panaca Friday to spend a night with Beverly's (daughter) family and trade them some meat for fresh vegetables veg-etables tomatoes, squash, cucumbers. Our latest two great-grandchildren were also there and added much to the pleasure of the trip. We left early the next morning to get to St. George for our LDS Ward Temple Day.
