Show Republicans Explain New Registration Changes The Garfield County Republican Party will hold a meeting with GOP Precinct Chairmen and Vice Chairs, and ByLaws Committee on March 29 at Bryce Valley High School. Candidates for the office of County Commissioner seat C, currently held by retiring Commissioner Louise Liston of Escalante, are invited to attend and to declare their positions. The informative training meeting meet-ing will cover the allocation of county and state delegates, and discussion of the Republican Platform. Plat-form. Garfield County is entitled to send 12 "grassroots" delegates and all GOP elected officials to the State Nominating Convention in early May. Candidates for the offices of Governor, Lt. Utah, Wyoming and Colorado residents will have their first opportunity op-portunity to -vote in the Western States Presidential Primary on Friday, Fri-day, Mar. 10. All polling places will be open. Voters will call for the ballot of their registered party. Unaffiliated voters will be able to choose the ballot they wish. Past Utah voter registration did not have a form that allowed citizens to declare affiliation. affil-iation. That has changed just in the past two years. Therefore the great majority of Utahns are listed as "unaffiliated." New voters may register to vote in the Western States Presidential Primary prior to 5 pm, March 3, in the County Clerks office. Materials have been prepared for local precinct caucuses to be held Monday, Mar. 27. At that time anyone wishing to become a local officer or delegate within the party must be registered as Republican. The filing deadline for, county offices is Mar. 17. In addition to the commission seat, school board positions for Panguitch District 1 , Panguitch District 2, and Escalante will be elected next November. |
