Shown brandishing bran-dishing their trophy, which awaits the mounting of a team By Coach Eric Jessen TROPIC - Garfield County schools will be well represented at the state cross country meet set for Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City. There will be three boys teams and two girls teams competing com-peting as Bryce Valley and Panguitch qualified both boys and girls teams and Escalante will be sending their boys team. The schools qualified by competing at region level last week at Mt. Carmel Junction golf course. Teams competing included Bryce Valley, Panguitch,- Escalante, Valley, Piute, Milford and Wayne. Bryce Valley boys runners outlasted the competition to bring home their first region trophy tro-phy in over nine years. Bryce Valley was led by Levi LeFevre, Brady Shakespear, Andrew "Buzz" Harmon and Jory Twitchell. Also running well were Wyatt Shakespear, Kevin Clark, McKay Thompson and James Skakespear. They have been led by Scottie Beebe and Robert Jones. Adam Mclnelly, Chad Cottam and Shane Shakespear have all been strong for their team. Panguitch qualified a very young and talented team as well. The top runners for Panguitch High School have been Mykel Walsh, Skye Marshall, Tyler Barney, Mitch Owens, Shawn Marshall, Jason Dalton and Mitch Moore. In the girls competition, Panguitch took second place and Bryce Valley took third at the Region Meet. Both team qualify for the state run next week. Panguitch girls run well together. They have been led by Amanda Barney, Halie Sawyer, Oaklee Orton, Shauna Sawyer, Chelsea Birch, Jordan Leach and Amy Poll. Bryce Valley has been led by Jenne Comp, Angie Comp, Jana Foster, Megan Pollock, Sylvana Leslie, Chris Cantu and Bethany Comp. Reporting the stats: Levi LeFevre from Bryce Valley took first place a full 2:15 ahead of the next person competing and beat last years record mark of 16:38 set by Seth Steed of Escalante, by over 20 seconds. Bryce Valley High School took three of the top four time slots and four of the top nine time slots. Team scores for the meet totaled BVHS, 36; Piute, 54; EHS, 58; PHS, 88, Wayne, 124 and Milford, 159.
