Show Area Obituaries Brooke Larraine Owens Corwin HATCH Brooke Larraine Owens Corwin, 9, of Hatch, passed away Oct. 15, 2002, from a motorcycle accident. She was born May 12, 1993, in Las Vegas, Nev., to Donald Ray and Tammy Jo Owens Corwin. Brooke loved to dance, go horseback riding and was an amazing artist. Brooke's heart was always full of love for her family and friends. Brooke loved and looked after her little brother, Donnie Ray. Brooke has always been her mom's "Sunshine". Brooke had an amazing amount of energy and would get so excited when she was happy that her hands would just shake in front of her eyes. I'll never forget the wonderful day that Brookie made me become a mother and I am thankful that I was chosen to be her mom. Clement Hills Johnson Our beloved father Clement Hills Johnson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Oct. 18, 2002. He was born on Mar. 22, 1909, in' Cannonville, third in a family of 11. As a young man, he often drove teams of horses and worked as a shepherd, farmer, and state road employee. Clement married Clara McDougall on Sep. 13, 1929, and the couple was sealed in the Manti LDS Temple.. Early in their marriage, they moved their young family to Payson, where they established a flourishing dairy farm. When several of their children entered Brigham Young University, the family moved to Provo, from where Clem commuted to his large ranch near Bryce Canyon. Clem had little opportunity for formal education when he was young, but he made sure all of his children graduated from college and were well established estab-lished in their professions. When asked why he worked so hard to educate his children, Clem replied with his typical humor, "I didn't want to live with a bunch of ignoramuses." After years of independent study, Clem and his wife Clara graduated from Timpview High School in 1995. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints throughout his life, Clem magnified every calling he was given, including serving three missions. He was a very caring, spiritual man and a devoted father. He spent his life serving his family and others in ? . . . . Clement Johnson need. He was an avid reader and a gifted and diligent dairyman, rancher, and gardener. He was also known for his great sense of humor. He joins Clara, his loving wife of nearly 70 years, and eldest eld-est son (Howard Sinclair) who preceded him in death. He is survived by two younger sisters, Delpha Rose and Nina Robinson; six children, 26 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren. ' His children are Howard Sinclair Johnson (Carolyn), LaVon Clement Johnson (Marlene), Dawn Marion Waters (Virgil), Derrell G. Johnson (Marjorie), Lovisa Lyman (Don), Martha J. Elliott (Kenn), and Jay McDougall Johnson (Carol). Funeral services were held at Edgemont Second Ward in Provo, on Tuesday, Oct. 22. (See OBITUARIES on pg. 4A) Obituaries From Page 3A H. Frank Orton PANGUITCH, Utah - H. Frank Orton, church and civic leader, grocer, rancher, and friend, passed away rather peacefully, in the presence of family and friends, at the Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch, Utah, on Oct. 21, 2002, at 1 :30 p.m. He was 92. ; Frank, the fifth of 10 children of Henry Saddler Orton and ; ; Mary Elizabeth Linford Orton, ; -; descendants of British immi-; immi-; -; grants, was born on Feb. 26, 1910, in a three-room farm- ! - house in Panguitch. His forma- ! tive years were highlighted by -; hard work, a keen interest in -; - race horses and participation in ' ; ' high school sports. On July 6, 1932, Frank married mar-ried his sweetheart, Gwen : Riggs, in the LDS Manti Temple. Following their marriage, mar-riage, they lived in Reno, Nev., where Frank worked for Sewells United Grocery and where their first child Bob was born. Following brief sojourns in Pocatello, Ida., and Price, Utah, Frank and Gwen moved to Panguitch where Gloria, John and Sherrie were born. Gwen died on February 25, 1988, and this was a devastating . loss to Frank. In Panguitch, Frank and his brother-in-law, Jay A. Riggs, established and operated the Service Cash Store, later the A.G. Service Cash Market, from 1938 to 1976. Frank's warm and friendly personality, his desire to please, and his genuine love for people resulted in many enduring friendships. While in the grocery business, busi-ness, he purchased and operated the Ed McEwen Farm North of Panguitch and the Barton and Henrie ranches picturesquely nestled on the banks of the Sevier River Southeast of Panguitch. His Black Angus, and later cross-bred, calves became prize catches for cattle buyers from throughout the Intermountain Region. He has served as president of the West Panguitch Irrigation and Reservoir Company and on the governing board of Farmers Home Administration. Frank was a member of the Panguitch North Ward Bishopric and the Panguitch Stake Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day V - 4 I- , '. ?; ) t . 3 I T A :' I i H. Frank Orton Saints. He particularly enjoyed working with the adult members of the Aaronic Priesthood in the stake and helping to nurture them back into activity in the church. He served as general . chairman of the July 24th Panguitch Homecoming and Rodeo Committee for several years and was known for his ability to organize and motivate those who assisted him in his duties. He has generously supported, sup-ported, financially, several full-time full-time missionaries of his church, and others who stood in need of assistance. Frank is survived by his four children: Elder Robert F. Orton (Joy), Moscow, Russia; Gloria O. Dickinson (Bob), Richfield, Utah; and John H. Orton (Carol) and Sherrie O. Burningham (Rick), Panguitch, Utah. He also leaves 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and three sisters: Lola O. Farnsworth, St. George, Utah; Merle O. Errett, Burbank, Calif., and Emma Dee O. Houston (Bob), Kanab, Utah. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gwen, his parents, and the following brothers and sisters: Max; Rex; Preston Dee; Linford; Cecil; and Hilda O. Chidester. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Panguitch 2nd3rd Wards Chapel. Friends may call at the family home, 259 East Center St., from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and at the ward chapel on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Panguitch Cemetery. Funeral directors, Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, UT. Cecil F. Griffin ESCALANTE - Cecil F. Griffin, 77, of Escalante, passed away Oct. 15, 2002, in Panguitch. He was born Oct. 1 8, 1924, in Escalante, to Alburn Smith and Neoma Schow Griffin. He married Carrie Bailey on Nov. 23, 1951. The marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on Nov. 23, 1968. He is a veteran of WWII, an area stockman and recently retired from the maintenance crew for Escalante Town. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carrie Griffin of Escalante; children, Debra (Ervin) Cronin, Daryl C. (Angelique) Griffin, and Shellie Griffin, all of Escalante, LaNell : (Boyd) Cottam of Cedar City and Rhonda Kay (Troy) ; McMurtrey of Idaho Falls; 20 ;; grandchildren; 11 great-grand-; '. children; brothers and sisters: DeLane (Leah) Griffin, Vaunnie ''.'
