Boulder Mayor Keith Gailey nominated nomi-nated Karlsson and was himself honored at the 95th Annual Utah League of Cities and Towns Conference in Salt Lake City. Boulder's Tina Karlsson, Keith Gailey Honored For Their Humanities BOULDER - Boulder resident resi-dent Kristina "Tina" Karlsson was recently awarded the 2002 Mayors Award in the Humanities for her support, along with that of Mayor Keith Gailey and the community of Boulder for public humanities programs at a local level. Karlsson received a plaque awarded by Utah Humanities Council board member Lee Kreutzer, at the Oct. 2 Boulder City Council meeting. Kreutzer acknowledged that it was "refreshing and heartening to learn about the talent and dedication dedi-cation of the recipients of this award" throughout Utah. These award winners activities highlight high-light local history and heritage, literature and literacy, and the important roles individual citizens citi-zens can play in a community's quality of life. Boulder's mayor and nominee nomi-nee and additional mayors and their nominees who participated in this program were further honored at the 95th Annual Utah League of Cities and Towns' Conference held Sept. 11-13 at the Sheraton City Centre Hotel in Salt Lake City. The highlight for honorees is an invitation to the Annual Governor's Awards in the Humanities program on Nov. 9 at the Rose Wagner Center, also in Salt Lake City. All the expenses for the mayors and their awardees to attend this event are generously underwritten underwrit-ten by Zions Bank. Mayor Gailey had nominated Karlsson for this prestigious award based on years of community com-munity service, heart and commitment. com-mitment. Gailey cited five years of teaching dance, art and athletics athlet-ics to children grades one through six at Boulder Elementary School; current chair of Boulder Town Planning Commission', volunteer fireman with the Boulder Town Fire Department and works as an "outfitter" accompanying groups on extended trips into the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument promoting tourism and studying nature. In addition, Karlsson is serving serv-ing as chair of the Boulder Town Park Development committee, chair of Boulder Town Corner Beautification committee, chair of the Kiosk Committee to place signs at each end of town depicting depict-ing historical sites and business locations in or near Boulder Town and has served two terms on the Boulder City Council. In his letter of nomination, Gailey noted that these services are by no means all of the activities activ-ities and contributions made by Karlsson. The mayor also expressed his thanks and appreciation appre-ciation for all the things that Karlsson has done and continues to do in behalf of the Boulder community. |
