Show She Restored Our Confidence In Today's Youth My wife and I were enroute to a business seminar in Tucson when we stopped for gas and a snack at Leland's Texaco in Panguitch. Gretchen was the cashier. I paid her from a card case in which I carry my business cards and whatever cash I carry, In this case there were over $400 in it and I inadvertently left it on the counter by the cash register. I did not notice the loss until my wife and I signed into a motel in Kanab. We called back to the station and Gretchen answered the phone. When I identified myself she immediately said, "I've been calling every motel in town trying to find you." I gave Gretchen an I address to which she could mail the I card case and money. I told her. to take out $50 as a reward for being honest. She refused and said she couldn't take money for doing what is right! When I awoke the r next morning, there was a message at the motel from Gretchen. She had called back and stated that she was uncomfortable sending that much money through the mail and how did I want it handled. I called to Leland's Texaco and the lady who answered said yes the case was (See LETTER on page 4-A) LETTER From Page 2 there in the safe. I told her to keep it and that I would be back in four or five days to pick it up. When I arrived, the lady behind the counter handed me the case and' every penny was in it. Even though I had told her twice to take $50 as a reward for being honest, Gretchen still had refused to do it. I left $50 with the woman at the counter to give to Gretchen, but didn't feel that was sufficient. Thus this letter. I wanted all of Gretchen's family, friends and members of her community to know what a thoroughly honest, nice person she is. Here's to you, Gretchen. You're a credit to your family, your community, your generation, and all of southern Utah. Thanks for restoring some confidence con-fidence in my wife and me that there are still good people in the world. Don't knock the younger generation they're great!
