ESCALANTE For the entire month of March, First Security Bank of Escalante will have on display dis-play all the awards won in the year 2000 by locally owned Tennessee Walking horse mount, "She's A Pistol." Thomas and Tammy Alvey of Escalante are the proud owners of Gliding Gaits Horse Ranch and four Tennessee Walking horses with two more foals due this spring. One of the new arrivals will be the offspring off-spring of their famous mare She's A Pistol, so needless to say, expectations expec-tations are running high. She's A Pistol has been honored . to receive awards from the Utah All Breeds Horse Association (UABHA) as "high point winner" of the Tennessee Ten-nessee Walking Horse western (2-3) gait plantation champion horse of the year 2000. The UABHA holds four major shows a year, all in South Jordan, except for the one associated as-sociated annually with the Utah lor, Michelle Ben ward and little 18-month-old daughter Karma Benward, all of Escalante. They operate Gliding Gaits Horse Ranch in Escalante. State Fair in Salt Lake City. The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association (TWHBEA) in the state of Tennessee, Tennes-see, has placed She's A Pistol on it's Adult Honor Roll 2000 for excellence ex-cellence as the E-Z Rider 2-gait horse as well as for Promotion horse. The Mountain States Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Association Associa-tion (MSTWHBA) has also declared She's A Pistol the "high point winner" Horse of the Year 2000. She was also declared the high point winner as a Western plantation planta-tion horse champion as well as the Amateur ownedtrained winner. Twelve-year-old Aja Taylor of Escalante proudly rode her way to become MSTWHBA "Rookie of the Year 2000" high point winner. Taylor and She's A Pistol won first place in the Lite-shod English Ten- . nessee Walking Horse and became Reserve Champion while riding in her classes at the UABHA horse shows. The Color Country Paint Horse Show (CCPHC) in Hurricane awarded Taylor and She's A Pistol first place in the Open English Pleasure 2-gait class. Taylor says she enjoys the smoothness of the . ride that this bay mare provides and she looks forward to riding and winning at future shows. Also riding in her 'own. class was Michelle's 18-month-old daughter, Karma Bernard, who rode her way to first place wins in the lead line class. The younger Bernard shows a bright future fu-ture as a great horse person. Cody Johnson of Salt Lake City won first place on She's A Pistol riding in Open Trail competition at the TWH plantation classes. Owner Thomas Alvey has taken many first place wins on She's A Pistol at all the UABHA shows throughout 2000. "The cheers of the audience," states Alvey, "are a proof this mare's excellence." At the Utah State Fair, Tammy Alvey won a first place as well as Reserve Grand Champion with She's A Pistol in the TWH halter class. The Alvey s credit the work of an entire team from furrier Blaine Porter to a fine horse sitter, Maria Goerdel for the triumphs of this mare. From riders all pitching in before a class for the fine grooming, groom-ing, all the way to the cheers they give each other while in the ring, the group works as a finely tuned unit. "Win or lose," states Alvey, "our team and horses are what we love most. We're proud of the way we are making our strqng mark in the horse world and look forward to showing in 2001." |
