The competition was held in Cedar City and in- fc. ... it. volved HOSA chapters from southern Utah schools. Ashley Beebe of Escalante took fourth place in the competition and will go on to nationals na-tionals in Atlanta, Geor. later this summer. Beebe Takes 4th In Utah HOSA Competition In Cedar City Ashley Beebe of Escalante was named a statewide 4th place winner among high school students all over Utah in competing for honors in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). She was one of seven Escalante High School Students who took part in competition for southern Utah students Feb. 24 in Cedar City with a later competitioin in Ogden for northern Utah students. Scores from both areas were compiled and winners announced Mar. 8 in Ogden. Competing from Escalante in addition to Ashley were Cortney Reynaud, Angela Fischer, Fis-cher, Elisa Cottam, Jessica Mun-son, Mun-son, Jennifer Lyman and Libbey Venuti. They all competed in nursing assisting. The competitive event consisted of a written examination and the performance of actual procedures in a mock scenario. The Escalante HOSA club is advised by Sherree Rechtsteiner of Escalante. The Utah State HOSA Competition is held on two different dif-ferent weekends, with a southern competition and a .northern competition com-petition to help alleviate the need of Utah's southwest schools to travel to the Wasatch Front to compete. The Southern competition was sponsored and hosted by Southwest Utah AHEC (Area Health Education Center) on the campus of Southern Utah University. The scores from all those who attended the Southern competition, including the students e from Escalante High School, were included with the scores from the Northern competition held in Ogden on March 7-8. Those who win at the state level are eligible to compete at the national competition in Atlanta, Ga., later this summer. HOSA is a national vocation student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.
