Show H 1 ' P ( " ! Am L George W. Thompson 80th Birthday For George W. Thompson CANNONVILLE George W. Thompson will celebrate his 80th birthday with family and friends on Monday, May 28, Memorial Day, at the Cannonville Town Park. Brunch at the park will be served from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. George was born on June 7, 1921, Tropic, to Joseph W. and Rachel Wilson Thompson. He married Ada Smith, Aug. 25, 1943. He graduated from Dixie College Col-lege and for many years was a building contractor, building many structures in Garfield County. He also taught school for a year. He served as bishop of the Cannonville LDS Ward for eight years. Later, he served as counselor, ward clerk and teacher. Starting at age 14, he served as ward chorister for 27 years. He served on the board of South Central Communications, was mayor of Cannonville and was very active and supportive to the community. He has always loved music. He played the trumpet for many years in "Jimmy's Band". Since retiring to Las Vegas, he plays the banjo in a square dance band. George is a great storyteller. His children spent many hours at his knee listening to them. He has written many stories about early life in Bryce Valley. He and Ada served an LDS mission mis-sion to Arkansas in 1989. His hobbies are furniture making and growing a wonderful garden each year. They are the parents of eight -children: Georgiann (Tom) Reeee, Las Vegas, Nev.; Guy (Beverly) Thompson, Bryce Canyon; Patty Jo Lutes, Lynnwood, Wash; Micki Sue (Arnold DeWalt), Kent, Wash.; Joseph (Trisha) Thompson, Cannonville; Can-nonville; Rachel (Riley) Peeples, North Las Vegas, Nev.; Nellie and Nick Hadley, West Valley City; and George and Teresa Thompson, Cannonville. George and Ada have 32 grandchildren and 26 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. George also has six sisters: Julia Hall, Eleh Lazenby, Marva Fletcher, Nellie Higbee, Rayda Barton and Laurie Coon. |
