Show Garfield County Commi s sion Meets To Address Issues Garfield County Commissioners Clare Ramsay, Maloy Dodds and Dell LeFevre met for the last meeting meet-ing of the month on Monday, Apr. 23. BOARD REPORTS Council on Aging Commisioner Ramsay reported on the recent Council on Aging meeting. The Aging Board asked the commission to appoint two board members and a director for the Escalante Center. The board recommended rec-ommended Ray Christian and Doris Liles as board members and Kerry Griffin as director of the Escalante Center. All three commissioners approved the new board members. Public Works Brian Bremner updated the commission on the progress of the road GPS project. He also informed in-formed the commission that the road crews are planning to meet together to-gether to prioritize projects for the remainder of 2001. The commissioners then went into executive session to discuss pending litigation and land values. Monument Impact Funding Work Progress Approval Ken SizemCi'e, Five County Association of Governments, presented pre-sented the commission with draft agreements for the Monument Impact Im-pact Fund. Public Defender Bid Opening The district court has ordered Garfield County to hire additional public defenders due to a conflict of interest in situations. Two bids were received and the commissioners commission-ers decided to hire Marcus Taylor of Richfield as conflict counsel. Executive Session The commissioners decided to go into executive session to discuss pending litigation and jail personnel . issues. Bryce Canyon Country Recreation Guide Nancy Twitchell, Garfield County News, asked the council for an Economic Development back cover ad in the annual Bryce Canyon Can-yon Recreation Guide. After discussion, dis-cussion, the commission unanimously unani-mously approved the ad in the Recreation Rec-reation Guide at a cost of $700. Shop With A Cop Program Bill Watkins, K-Mart manager in Cedar City and Phil Terry, Iron County Sheriffs Department, Sergeant Ser-geant Kerry Lee, Lincoln County, Nevada Sheriffs Office and Rebecca Sicairos, Southern Utah University Sorority Representaive, along with Kevin Moore, Garfield County Sheriffs Deputy, were on hand to give an overview of the Shop With A Cop program at the Cedar City K-Mart. They would like to include in-clude Garfield County this year. The program currently includes Iron and Beaver counties and their goal is to raise $10,000 for the program. Deputy Terry explained the role of law enforecement in the program and Sargeant Lee explained the fund raisers and Lincoln County's experience expe-rience with the program. Sicairos explained the sororities involve ment with the program. Deputy Moore stated that the Sheriffs Office Of-fice would be interested in looking into the program and would like to participate this year. The group suggested that five children from each elementary school be invited to participate. They encourage fund raising involvement in-volvement from local fire departments, depart-ments, the National Guard and EMS programs as well. Business Licenses Applications for business licenses li-censes were approved for Panguitch Lake General Store, Paunsaguant Development and Construction, Rim Rock Shooting Range at Western Town, and Beaver Dam Lodge dba Aspen Cove Resort. Tape Recording Commission Meetings After discussion regarding tape recording Garfield County Commission Com-mission meeting, the commissioners commission-ers decided to discontinue the practice. |
