Show Escalante tSsvs V By Marlene Haws ' "- 826-4859 Danny, Lois and LaRue Spencer were in Cedar City last Saturday for the funeral of Ruth Stephens Hills, who isLaRue's sister. Vaunda Willis, Glenwood, reports re-ports that Nelda Willis recently moved to Glenwood and lives at the Curtis Residential Center. She would really like to have Escalante folks stop by and see her when they go to Richfield. On May 3, over 30 family members mem-bers helped Nelda celebrate her 87th birthday at the home of Vaunda and Elwood Willis. She is doing quite well and enjoying her new surroundings. After spending the winter in California with daughter and son-in-law, Milton and Joyce Wool-sey, Wool-sey, Gwen Lyman came to Provo and had a get together with two of her sisters and a brother, then Jim and Deanna Greer brought her home and stayed with her for a few days. Dudley Spencer had surgery recently, but is back home. Wife Hazel has her hands full trying to hold him down long enough to get him healed. J.C. and Eva Haws and Garl and Patsy Cottam joined them one afternoon on the weekend week-end for a picnic luncheon at their house. Condolences to Terry and Beth Hunt, our former Postmaster, of Loa who lost their son in an industrial accident last week. Arden and Beth (Porter) Carter, Car-ter, Salt Lake City, were in town (See ESCALANTE On Page 3-A) Escalante News From Page 2-A last week. They tried one evening even-ing to find Montel and Bud Revord but, because the old barn had been torn down, they were unable to find them. They were more successful the next morning and had a good visit. Many former residents were in town on the holiday weekend. Myrna, Carol, Peggy and Marva Mounteer visited friends and old neighbors. Mac and Jo Barney and daughter Bobbi, Cedar City, and Bud and Carolyn Ormond, American Ameri-can Fork, stayed at the Grace Barney home and visited with Wade And Shelley Barney. Ray and Lois Barney, Kaysville, spent a few days with Lois's mom, Elda Haws. McKay and Rose Bailey had Stuart and Karma Bailey and family of Fillmore. Visiting at the home of Nelda Munson were daughter Barbara of Provo and Voyle and Lillian Munson, Bountiful. Vernon and Hazel Griffin had Loreta Shurtz and Virginia Fry, Richfield; Don Shurtz, Price; Ivan Shurtz and Kenny Muir, Cedar City; LaWana Muir, Venice and Sharon and Robin Griffin, Monroe. Mon-roe. At the Vergean Porter home were: Sloan and Vera Lynn Porter, Por-ter, Midway; Clint and Shanna Porter, Cedar City; and Vergeania Davenport, Summit. Dividing their time between Fay Alvey and Eva Dean Liston were Jim and Lola Alvey, Maple-ton. Maple-ton. Steve Wiscombe brought his wife, LaVee, down from Maple-ton Maple-ton to spend the weekend with Fay but he had to go back for other commitments so LaVee went back with Jim and Lola. EvaDean Liston also had Steve and Beth Blakey and family fam-ily here from Springville. She returned home with them to attend at-tend the graduation exercises for her grandson, Jesse Alvey, in Mapleton. The family of Jerry and Geneal Chatterton, Logan, were weekend visitors at the home of Doyle and Thelma Cottam. Bart and Leanna Deuel, Hurricane, Hurri-cane, were here and were supposed sup-posed to meet Bart's brother, Jay, at the cemetery to put flowers out. Boyd and LaNell Cottam, Ce- dar City, visited Cecil and Carrie Griffin. And Lark Reynolds, Can-nbnville, Can-nbnville, and Glade Reynolds, Richfield, were in town on Saturday. Satur-day. Vernon and Peg Roundy, Monroe, Mon-roe, and Renon Reed, Richfield, had part of their families here. David and Raylene White-field, White-field, Las Vegas, Nev. were at the home of Arnold and Deon Alvey. . Budd and Aloha Porter and Sue Porter and two daughters, of Provo, stayed at the home of Klyn and Marlene Haws. Ben and Renee Porter had all their children here. Sons Coy and Bryce Porter, daughters Shelley Olsen and Charlotte Johnson and their families were all here from the Provo area. |
