Show By Earl Roe 676-2376 I don't know if it is my age or the pleasure of writing this column col-umn that makes these Friday deadlines arrive so quickly. The old age must be true. "The slower you get, the faster time flies." Winona Sevy accompanied Evalyn and Earl Roe to Provo this last weekend. Winona had a special spe-cial medical and dental appointments appoint-ments in Provo. Evalyn and Earl went on to Salt Lake City the next morning for Earl's appointment appoint-ment with Dr. Bartin (the knee specialist). He will be seeing him again June 15. Some of you will recall that in "the good old days", June 15 was the target day for the opening day of fishing season. Earl and Monte always tried to he the first boat on the lake on this day even if they had to stay up the rest of the night after the Fisherman's Ball. They were usually successful. Many former Panguitchites were here over the Memorial Day weekend. Maxine Crosby had most of her family here: Richard and Betty Crosby and son Regan from Yorba Linda, Calif.; Norman (See PANGUITCH On Page 5-A) Panguitch News From Page 2-A and Sheryl Crosby and children; Mark and Tonya from Pleasant Grove; Philip and Jaynell Bailey and children from Milford; Barry and Kylee Barnes, Milford; and Dana Crosby (Evan's wife) and son Jacob. Sounds like a house full of fun. Hopefully, Maxine did not have to do all of the cooking. Clinton and Donna Boyter from Oregon stayed with Keith and Julia and also visited with his sister, Neucille Henrie. The Haycock brothers, Warren, War-ren, Dick, and Harold were here for their regular Memorial Day visit. Stan and Lana Foy had their daughter, Amy and baby, spend some time with them. Stewart LeFevre came home to visit with friends and take care of Memorial Day duties. Jim and Evelyn Henrie are here for the summer. Jim slipped into town a time or two during the winter and we did a little fishing. Mary Lou Bruhn and Reta (Ipson) Lincoln were in town for a short visit with Reta's sister, Ingra Richards, and other friends. Bob and Beverly Davis were along - with Beverly's brother, Richard Miller and his wife. Monte and Cleo Marshall had a busy few days. They traveled to Richfield for the Seminary graduation of their granddaughter Megan Erickson, then traveled on to Riverton to visit Dan and Ro-lana Ro-lana Marshall. They returned home, then journeyed back to Richfield for their granddaughter's High School graduation, then to Southern Utah University for the graduation of their grandson, Sam Marshall and his wife, Laurie. (The wind might as well keep blowing because Monte does not have time to fish.) The Panguitch Lake Branch of the LDS Church was activated for the summer on May 24. The chapel was full and about the same number had to sit outside. Clair Veater is the branch president presi-dent with Carl Gilette as its councelor. The branch is not fully organized as yet, but Sacrament meeting will be held every Sunday Sun-day from 10 to 11 a.m. President Veater informed the congregation that a new chapel is being planned, but may be a few years down the line. Garrett McCullough was ordained or-dained a Priest in the Panguitch LDS 2nd Ward. Cal Guerin has left to spend a short time in California to take care of the burial of his wife, Marvelle, and some other family matters. Henderson Johnson has moved to Cedar City to live with a Grandson. There will be some changes in our high school next year: two of our excellent teachers are retiring. Gloria Houston submitted her request re-quest after many years of service to our students. She asked how it felt to give it all up and was told to go back and sub a time or two next year and she will know she made the right decision. Jim Clarke, our art teacher, is putting up his brushes for the second time. I told him if he quit, I would not take him ice fishing. His reply was, "Remember what happened to General Custer". We hate to lose any of our best experienced expe-rienced teachers, but we know the time does come. There are many young teachers out there waiting to take their places. Hopefully we are fortunate enough to get those who will do the excellent job that these two have done. Our high school has won more Sterling Scholar awards in art than any other High School in our area and Mr. Clarke is the only art teacher to have two students take 1st and 2nd in art in the same year; Leah Smith, Tropic, 1st; and Lisa Henrie, Panguitch, 2nd. The Deseret News has . awarded Panguitch High School their trophy for the most success- ful sports program in the 1-A Divi- sion. Seventy-five Panguitch, High School students completed' Ed Net courses this past year. Since I cannot find my Burma -Shave booklet, I will revert to a' little humor from the war years. I have a little book filled with ac-? tual letters written to various organizations, or-ganizations, boards, companies and individuals during these trying try-ing times. This is one that Evalyn , liked: Miss Dorothy Dix; The! Daily Mirror; 235 E. 45th St.; New ' York City. "Dear Miss Dix, My husband is being released from the service next week end and he has a good defense job waiting for him. Now I have two children and would like to have another, but I read that every 3rd child born into the world is Chinese, so I don't think I should take a chance, do you? Mrs Mart R " |
