Quilt Walk Festival Set For Panguitch June 12-13 PANGUITCH It may be the social event of the year for Panguitch, if not an event of huge historical proportions. The First Annual Quilt Walk Festival slated for June 12-13 will be a celebration to be remembered remem-bered and shared. According to Caitlin ,Goch-nour, ,Goch-nour, all proceeds from the two-day two-day event will go to the Panguitch Pan-guitch Main Street Project, a nonprofit non-profit organization. Highlighting the two-day festival festi-val will be the Quilt Walk Pageant Pa-geant as well as quilting classes, quilt and trunk shows, a pioneer homes tour, an antique car show and an antique and craft fair. The celebration marks the first quilt walk, an actual historical event that originates from the initial attempt to settle the town of Panguitch in 1864. That first winter was brutal; food was scarce and settlers were starving to death. A group of seven men, with a wagon pulled by two oxen, V set out to get flour from Parowan, a town 40 miles to the west, on the other side of a rugged mountain pass. In their weakened state, the men struggled with every footstep, sinking up to their hips in the deep snow. Eventually they abandoned the wagon and oxen, which also were floundering, and continued on foot. They completed the journey by laying quilts over the deep snow and walking across them, retrieving the quilts and repeating the process over and over again until the quilt-walkers finally reached Parowan. The story became known as the "Quilt Walk" and is treasured in the annals of Panguitch history. The Quilt Walk Pageant, a re-enactment re-enactment of that historic trek to settle Panguitch, will be presented pre-sented Friday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. with a sit-down dinner at the Panguitch Social Hall at 65, E. (See QUILT WALK on page 3-A) Quilt Walk From Front Page Center. Admission, which includes in-cludes dinner will be $10 with tickets available at the festival registration desk at Panguitch High School or at the door. A special dress rehearsal for that Friday pageant is scheduled for Panguitch residents to attend on Thursday evening, June 1 1 at 7 p.m. at the Social Hall. The dress rehearsal will not include a dinner and will cost attendees $3 per person or $10 per family. Organizers are hoping that residents throughout the county will recognize the celebration as an important part of area history to be appreciated and passed down through future generations. A variety of classes on quilting, quilt-ing, paper piercing and more will be offered in half-day sessions the morning and afternoon of June 12 and June 13 at Panguitch High School. Registration is $15 and each class is $15, plus any additional fees for supplies.
