Show Dr. Rav Svrett Houston SAINT LOUIS, MO. PANGUITCH, UT Ray Syrett Houston, D.D.S., 70, of St. Louis, Missouri and former resident of Panguitch, Utah, died October 1, 1996 in St. Louis from complications complica-tions following surgery. He was born in Panguitch, Mar. 19, 1926 to James Frank and Roene Syrett Houston. He attended elementary and high school in Panguitch and finished high school at West High in Salt Lake City. He began college the same year at the University of Utah. He was employed at Southern Utah Equitable in Panguitch during high school and at Safeway in Salt Lake City. He attended at-tended Dixie College in St. George and graduated from University of Utah. Served in the Navy two years during WWII and worked as a geologist on the oil wells analyzing soils. He worked as a seasonal ranger at Zion's National Park and drove truck for Consolidated Freight Lines. He entered dentistry school at St. Louis University and specialized in endodontics in New York City. He practiced dentistry in St. Louis for L.H.I Union and was in private practice for thirty years. He also taught dentistry at Southern Illinois University. He is survived by his wife, Nadean Whittaker Houston, three children, Holli (Jon) Kercher, Patti (Rick) Holley and Bradford Ray Houston; three grandchildren, Christopher, Catherine Nadean and Christian, all of St. Louis; brothers and sisters, Irene (Clem) McEwen, Fern (J.L.) Crawford, Opal Miller, Cecile (Frank) Orton, Samuel Crawford (Mary Joe) Houston, Roene Nelson, Zelda (Eugene) Gerstner and Christine (Tedd) Owen and sisters-in-law, Tennys Houston and Dorothy Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jay Frank Houston, Dee Fred Houston and Robert Hoover Houston and two brothers-in-law, Reid Miller and Fenn Eugene Nelson. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Oct.. 5, 1996 at in the Panguitch 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 200 North 400 East, Panguitch with Bishop Kenneth Miller conducting con-ducting services. Prelude and postlude music" was provided by Barbara Orton and Barbara Heaton. Prior to the service, a brother-in-law, Ken Chamberlain, gave the family prayer. Military colors were also presented to open the service. A granddaughter, Catherine Ray Syrett Houston, DJ3.S. Kercher offered the invocation. A musical selection "Families Can Be Together Forever" was sung by the granddaughters and great-nieces, accompanied ac-companied by Karen Chamberlain. Thoughts were expressed by sons-in-law, Rick Holley and Jon Kercher. Two musical selections "Remember Me" and " I Am A Child Of God" were sung by a nephew, Howard Horton, accompanied accompa-nied by Carol Horton. A family tribute was given by a son, Bradford Ray Houston, followed by the congregation con-gregation singing "Love At Home." The benediction was provided by a nephew, Richard Chamberlain, after which the colors were dismissed. Pallbearers were nephews Clem McEwen, Greg Owen, Ronald Orton, John Houston, Jimmy Miller and Steven Whittaker. Honorary pallbearers were grandson, grand-son, Christopher Kercher; brother, Samuel C. Houston; brothers-in-law, Clem McEwen, J.L. Crawford, Frank Orton, Gene Gerstner, Ted Owens, Howard Whittaker, Ken Chamberlain, Kelton Whittaker, Dee Whittaker and nephews, LaMotte Houston, Samuel T. Houston and Geoff Gerstner. Compassionate service was provided pro-vided by the Panguitch LDS Second Ward. Great-nieces served as flower girls. Burial with military rites by the Panguitch American Legion Post 25, was in the Panguitch Cemetery with the dedication of the grave performed by a nephew, Chet Nelson, under the direction of the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. Kenneth E. Goulding HENRIEVILLE Kenneth Edwin Goulding was born i'n Henrieville, Utah on May 25, 1909, to James Arthur and Dora Burton Smith Goulding. He died in Panguitch, Utah on Oct. 2, 1996. He was the seventh child of eleven and spent his entire life in and around the canyon country of southern Utah and one of the last men to have talked face to face with Butch Cassidy. He married Elsie Quilter Middleton on May 14, 1935, in the St. George LDS Temple. They spent their lives together in Henrieville. They were the parents of five children: Kenneth (JoAnne) Goulding, Henrieville; Wynona (Ernie) Henderson, West Valley; Steve (Kathy) Goulding, Henrieville; Kathryn (Dave) Pollock, Tropic and Dick (Jane) Goulding, Delta. Ken was a cattle and sheep man, as well as a farmer, most of his life. He herded cattle and sheep throughout southern Utah. He was always ready with a good story about the days on the range or a special place where he had been. He loved his wife and children with a love few have equaled. He had a special love of dancing and enjoyed taking his sweetheart in his arms and dancing to a good tune. He enjoyed being with his boys checking cattle and helping feed and care for the stock right up to the end. Ken had a life of service to his church. He was a High Councilor in the Escalante Utah LDS Stake for 24 years. He served in several bishoprics as well as many other ward positions. He loved his hi Kenneth Edwin Goulding church and spent many hours performing per-forming his duties. He loved the Lord and encouraged his family to stay close to the gospel. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers Orlo, Pratt, German, Reed and Nephi, five sisters sis-ters Alice, Araminta, Martha, Lavina and Clatie, one half-sister, Elva Dahl, and one granddaughter, Lorie. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters, 19 grandchildren grand-children and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces and extended family members. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996 in the Henrieville LDS Ward Chapel under the direction of Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. Dortha Ann Reid SPRYCLARION, UTAH Dortha Ann Veater Reid, 79, of Clarion, Utah died Oct. 3, 1996 in Mayfield, Utah. She was born June 10,1917 in Spry, Utah to James LeRoy and Preal Ruby Veater. She married Grant Reid and later divorced. di-vorced. In 1940, she and her family moved to San Diego, Calif., where she worked in the medical field. She retired in 1977 and moved to Clarion, where she lived adjacent to her son and his wife, Morris and Bonnie Reid. During the winter months, she enjoyed traveling to Nevada to be with her daughter and husband, Colleen and Ron Solis, and to California to be with family there. She was a member of the LDS church, Centerfield Literary Club and the Gunnison DUP. Her children are Morris and Bonnie Reid of Clarion and Colleen and Ron Solis of Las Vegas, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers and three sisters, Clark Veater, Circleville; Wayne Veater, Sandy; Tony Prince, Annette Beckstrom and Pearl Walker of San Diego, Calif. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Monte and sister, Ruby. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 7, 1996 in the Centerfield 1st LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Gene Barsley officiating. officiat-ing. A son, Morris Reid gave the family prayer prior to the opening of the service. A vocal solo "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," was sung by Ray Smith, accompanied by Colleen Nielsen. Tributes were delivered by Teresa Waters, Tammy Jolly, Darrel and Scott Reid and Douglas Hardie. A great-grandson, Terence Waters gave a piano solo, "Fur Elise." A brother, Clark Veater spoke, followed by remarks from Bishop Gene Barsley. A vocal selection, "I Am A Child Of God," was sung by the great-grandchildren, accompanied accompa-nied by Colleen Nielsen. Brother- Dortha Ann Veater Reid in-law Royce Walker gave the benediction. Compassionate services were rendered by the Centerfield 1st Ward LDS Relief Society. Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons Darrel Reid, Douglas Hardie, Scott Reid, Clinton Reid, Hal Jolley, Terry Waters, Josh Reid, Terence Waters, Justin Jolley, Trent Waters, Braeden Reid, Jordan Jolley, Jeremy Reid, Kayson Reid, Colten Jolley and Trevor Waters. Interment was in the Panguitch Cemetery with a brother, Wayne Veater performing the dedication of the grave under the direction of Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. i |
