Show Perkins Wins Proficiency Award Ralph Perkins, 18, representing the Western region, competed as a national finalist with three other regional winners in the Diversified Livestock Production Proficiency Award program at this year's 59th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri for the title of national winner. He was recognized before some 21,000 FFA members and leaders attending the convention. con-vention. The Diversified Livestock Production Award program is designed to encourage vocational agriculture students to become established in the livestock industry by employing the best management practices available for the efficient production and marketing of livestock. Each student's practical experience program will be different, dif-ferent, but will include a combination com-bination of two or more specific livestock enterprises such as beef, swine, dairy, horses or sheep. Perkins began his first year in vocational agricultural with 45 sheep, six steers, and five cows. By retaining his best replacement animals, he has increased his herd 'o 39 cattle, 136 sheep, and 50 hens. By showing his best livestock, he has won many livestock, showmanship, and judging awards. Perkins plans 'o continue to improve his herds and I 'o a' tend college where he will study I ve'erinarian science. He is a I member of the Panguitch FFA 1 Chapter and the son of Mr. and Mrs. j James Perkins.
