Show New Business Plans Operation In Kodachrome State Park CANNONVILLE Robert Ott and his wife Mira Loy, residents of Cannonville, have signed an agreement with the Utah State Parks to build a 20 x 40-foot building as 'he start of a business venture . called Scenic Safari. The business will be a horseback riding and stage coach ride enterprise. The building which is now under construction will be known as Trailhead Station and will be a support facility as well as a tourist supply store. The project, scheduled for an April 1 completion, is being built on park property but will be leased to 'he Otts for 10 years with a renewal clause. Present plans call for a corral complex to be constructed as well as a stage coach station. The stage coach rides are being planned with non-horseback riders and handicapped visitors in mind. The area is off limits to all-terrain and off-road vehicles, but Ott said, "it is ideal for an equestrian adventure." ad-venture." The initial building phase will include a country store, res'rooms, reservations office, and 'ack. The enterprise does not exclude ex-clude o'her riders from enjoying the path system that the safari will use. Ott said the building was designed by the McDonald Brothers of Kanab and will be constructed in the style of 'urn-of-the-century western ar-chitec'ure. ar-chitec'ure. The building will have a 'all "reader board" style high siding up over the roof line which will bear 'he business name and list the store's various business endeavors and merchandise carried inside. Tom Shakespear, Kodachrome Park Ranger said he expects the work to go forward and to be finished by the projected date of April 1, 1987. Ott said he expects to see the installation of hot showers soon in the park. Although Kodachrome Park is one of the most scenic in Utah, said Ott, "the thing 'hat might be hindering park visitation and growth is the absence of showers." He said that very likely these needs will soon be met. He said that a corral system will be built and that the remuda (string of horses) would number about 20 to s'art. He also stated that other riding entrepreneurs in the area have been extremely reliable and customer safety conscious and he said he intends to maintain that high s'andard. Kodachrome Park is a scenic wonderland and at this time of the year is spectacular in its fall and win'er finery, said Ott. "If anyone comes through Highway 12 either from 89 or from Grover to the east and misses Kodachrome," he said, "they have missed one of the most beautiful sights in the world." Ott unabashedly admits to being a Kodachrome "chamber of commerce" com-merce" booster. "Since there is no chamber here," he said, "I will do it all." Many people who have moved away to the city where better wages prevail and where convenience is almost taken for granted, try hard to get back into this area, said Ott. It is so restful here that people who come for a visit have to force themselves 'o go back into the metropolitan way of life. |
