Mike Ahlstrom, Bryce Valley High and Jason V.. Griffin, Escalante High were honored and will play in a 1A2A All-Star game at Hunter High School on March 19 at 6 p.m. Outreach Classes For Escalante March 22-25 ESCALANTE Myron Cot-tarn, Cot-tarn, Principal of Escalante High School, Leon Stewart, Applied Technology Director for Garfield County School District, and Sevier Valley Applied Technology Center, have coordinated with Professor Ken Munford, Chairman of the Technology Department of Southern South-ern Utah University, and Danny Shakespear, Coordinator for Custom Cus-tom FitShort Term Training at the university, together developed a program to assist with special enrichment en-richment training for the community. commu-nity. With the close of the sawmills and the remote nature of the community, com-munity, it is felt that the citizenry of the area may be at a distinct disadvantage dis-advantage as to career access information infor-mation and training. The desire is to give the high school students and the adult community an opportunity opportu-nity to see and be involved in hightech high-tech training leading to employment employ-ment skills. They have set up a four-day block spanning from March 22-25 in which the entire high school would be used for experience training train-ing involving high school students, teachers, and adults of the community commu-nity in such areas of training as: criminal justice, digital electronics, CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting), Draft-ing), diesel mechanics, cosmetology, cosmetol-ogy, commercial art, desk top publishing, pub-lishing, auto mechanics, and health occupations, including C.P.R. certification. cer-tification. Instructors and equipment will come from Southern Utah University's Univer-sity's Technology Department and from Sevier Valley Applied Technology Tech-nology Center. Young women and men alike will be given the opportunity oppor-tunity to be involved in all of the programs. For members of the community to sign up for any of these four-day classes, they can call Escalante High School at 826-4205 during regular school hours. l |
