The boys from BV and their coach Clare Ramsay got into the region finals for the first time in 28 years. The Mustangs played well the first part of the championship game, but the tough Cowboys from Kanab captured the first placed honors with a 94-77 win. Friday night, BV lost a couple of key players to fouls in Trevor Stewart and Eric Stout, but led by Brayton Talbot, Todd Feltner, Gary Syrett, Cary Clark, and Justin Baugh, the Mustangs got themselves them-selves into the final. Talbot had a fantastic first half and scored 28 in the game. Trevor Stewart hit 16 and Todd Feltner 15 for the Mustangs. Saturday, the Kanab Cowboys seemed to have too many people coming from too many directions in the championship game. The Cowboys are very good and have lots of bench strength. Eric Stout nailed 25 in the final with Feltner netting 16 and Gary Syrett and Talbot Tal-bot hitting 12 each. Panguitch and Escalante each won games on Friday, with the Moquis defeating Gunnison 75-62 and Panguitch stopping Milford 74-57. 74-57. Brain Roundy shot in 20 points and Todd Olsen 17 for Escalante. Chris Henrie scored 17, Jason Miller 15, Gary Leach 13 and Travis Hatch 10 in the Bobcat win. The Bobcats and Moquis met Saturday night in the consolation championship. Panguitch led by as many as 17 in the first half, but Escalante roared back in the second half and took the lead. The Moquis went cold from the free-throw line, hitting only one of their last 10 and Panguitch capitalized to win 68-58. Martell Simons had a super first half for the Moquis and finished with 22 points, while Dave Tebbs and Chris Henrie hit for 19 and 17 ivyy6y6yyJ& JtaWievitMxivs&yB&y &M&siyfivyyAVAXsH& Panguitch, but Kanab emerged victorious with a 94-79 score. Brian Roundy scored 12 and Todd Olsen 1 1 for the Moquis. Panguitch earned the right to play North Sevier on Monday for the final spot in state, but could not muster enough for the win. PHS led early at 6-0 and staked a narrow 20-19 half time lead, but North Se vier hit the first basket of the second sec-ond half and went on to defeat Panguitch Pan-guitch 50-38. The Bobcats had a turn at poor free-throws, hitting only five of 20, a statistic which could have given them victory.
