In a discussion concerning the dress and grooming standards, board member Rod Syrett said that he feels hats should not be worn at school activities. Board member Quay Simons said that he feels students should be able to wear hats anywhere but in the school room, and that the board should not dictate dress standards to the public. Judd recommended that non-agenda non-agenda items be eliminated to prevent pre-vent surprises. He said that patrons who feel there is something important impor-tant enough to discuss should request the item to be placed on the agenda. He said that the board often needs time to examine, research and consider items that come up. Member Phil Allen said that he felt an open agenda policy sometimes caused a meeting to get out of control. con-trol. The open agenda policy was eliminated by a four to one vote. Boulder town clerk Judy Davis asked the school district to participate partici-pate with a 50 percent donation to match a University of Utah grant to bring station KUED Channel 7 into Boulder. The board asked Judd to look for a grant to match 50 percent of the $3,381 needed for the installation of the necessary equipment. equip-ment. Supt Judd said the dry wall material ma-terial is up in the Escalante High School gymnasium, and all the classrooms. He said the shop area concrete has been poured and that work on the new installation is proceeding nicely. The district has an $8,500 grant to purchase a driver education car and has received three bids. Brad-shaw Brad-shaw Chevrolet bid is $12,954 with a trade-in of $2,030 making the bid $10,924. Parkway Ford bid $13,847 with a trade-in of $4,500 making the bid $9,347. McKinlay Chevrolet gave a bid of $14,293 with no trade-in offer. Board member Sam Allen asked the board to give authorization to the superintendent to make the best deal possible. Judd said he felt most of the goals for the 1987-88 school year had been met but he said he felt the boardemployee relations were not as good as expected and asked the board for suggestions. Board president Ray Englestead suggested that the board and superintendent super-intendent ride a few school bus routes. |
