Show Wild Plant Proposed For Endangered List The Jones cycladenia (Cycladenia humilis var. jonesii), a rare plant known to exist only in the Canyonlands section of southeastern Utah and in Emery, Garfield and Grand Counties, has been proposed for endangered designation under the Endangered Species Act. The proposal appeared in the Jan .10, 1985 Federal Register. Public hearing requests must be received by Feb. 25. The public comment period extends to Mar. 11. Four populations totaling less than 2,900 plants are found on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, State of Utah, and National Park Service. The two larger populations are crisscrossed with vehicle tracks associated with mineral and or oil and gas exploration. The smaller populations are threatened by motorcycle disturbance and erosion. The Jones cycladenia grows on low hills and outwash plains below mesas. It is a herbaceous perennial 6-8 inches tall, with clumps of bright green leaves and rosy flowers.
