Show Local FFA Chapter Notes Annual Week Members of the Panguitch Chapter of the Future Farmers of America are uniting with FFA members from across the United States to celebrate National FFA Week. Beginning Feb. 16, local members began participating in a schedule of activities to salute and promote their organization. Jeff Veater, chapter president, says Panguitch is planning its. activities around this year's theme Keep Agriculture No. 1, Support FFA and Vocational Agriculture. "We're excited about telling the community what we're doing," says Jeff. He explains that FFA is an organization of students of vocational agriculture who are preparing for careers in agriculture. "Our involement in FFA now means people are getting, ready to work in the agricultural industry in the future," he says. Scheduled activities are: Building Our American Communities Program, parliamentary procedure, and public speaking contest, to name a few. National FFA Week coincides with the date of George Washington's birthday. Washington was recognized as a master farmer on his Virginia plantation, and the National FFA Center in Alexandria stands on land that was formerly part of his estate. "The FFA has been preparing . young people for careers in agriculture since 1928," says chapter advisor Jack Soper. "With over 8,300 local chapters and nearly half a million members, today the organization realizes the importance of reaching and maintaining a level of excellence. With its attention for preparing for tomorrow, the FFA intends to reach and maintain a standard of excellence that will keep agriculture No. 1 here and abroad," Soper concluded. |
