Show Usage of Burr Ferry iNoted After Beginning Over 250 vehicles made the passage across Southern Utah's Lake Powell on the John Atlantic Burr Ferry during its first four days of operation, according to officials at Bullfrog Marina. The ferry was certified for commercial service by the U.S. Coast Guard on July 2nd and started operation on July 3 at 1 p.m. with two cars on board for the inaugural commercial passage. Del Webb Corp., operators of the UDOT owned ferry, said that besides the automobile traffic, 84 foot passengers also made the 3.1 mile crossing between Halls Crossing and Bullfrog Marinas between July 3rd and 6th. The 100-foot long, 42-foot wide Burr was launched May 4 but was not allowed to begin commercial operation for two months pending certification by the Coast Guard. The 1.4 million dollar ferry is designed to carry eight cars and two boses and up to 150 passengers. Using the ferry eliminates over 130 road miles between the marinas. Del Webb Corp., which operates both Bullfrog and Hall's Crossing Marina, project the ferry will produce revenues of $17,620 for the month of July and $18,500 for August. Projections through the end of 1985 indicate the ferry will produce total revenue of $48,900. Summer operating hours for the ferry begin daily at 7 a.m. St Bullfrog Marina with hourly crossings between the two marinas. One-way fares are $ for passenger vehicles, Including occupants; $2 for adult foot passengers; $1 per child. Seniors and children under five can ride free. |
