Show f Escalante Chit Chat Marilyn Jackson Mr. and Mrs. Don (Colleen) Nielsen of Gunnison came to help son Brent and his wife Jaleen install a woodburning stove in their home. Marie Hall had a very exiting summer and is glad to be home now resting. She accompanied daughter Lillian and her husband, Ray Shepherd to Germany earlier this spring to see daughter, Arlene Elmer. While there, she saw the Swiss Alps, Paris and many of the castles on the Rhine River. It was thrilling experience to see the flowers blooming and sights in Europe. In Salt Lake City she had a chance to see her brother, Glen Walters and spend some time with him. Marie's oldest daughter, Marilyn Ross, who lives in California, flew up for a few days. This past weekend, Marie has been in St. George for the wedding of .granddaughter, Karen Jolley who married Keith Teeples of Henderson, Nev. After the temple ceremony, she accompanied parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Rulon (Marilla) Jolley to the Rock Church in Cedar City for the reception. Marie is happy to be home now and is looking forward to a rest. Kenneth Spencer and family are living in Los Alamos, N.M. where Kenneth is a counselor in the bishopric; wife, Rita works on an activities committee. They came to see his mother, LaRue Spencer who also had an overnight visit from daughter, Kathy Marshall. Kathy brought daughter Sheila Woolsey to spend a month with her grandmother, Beth Smith. Mr, and Mrs. Glover Smith also have Weldo's daughter, Wendy staying with them while her mother, Marilyn is "in Panguitch. Elder Kenneth Hal Barker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hal (Myma) Barker has just returned from a deaf mission where he participated in four missions: those of Denver, Colo.; Oakland, Calif.; Rochester, N.Y. and Chicago, 111.; serving part of the time as district leader. He plans to return to Salt Lake City with his parents to attend vocational school this fall and pursue a career in printing. Robert Wilson had a couple days off from work. He brought his wife and two children from Tuba City, Ariz, to spend the weekend with his parents, the Leo Wilsons. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Lyman recently returned from Reno, Nev. where they attended the Italian Picnic. Wife, Alice Ann reports that it was a fabulous experience, the food was delicious and to be entertained by the Oak Ridge Boys "wasn't bad either!" The graduating class of 1975 held their 10-year reunion in conjunction with the Pioneer Day celebration. The class had approximately 28 members and most were in attendance at the reunion. Coach Vic Christensen and wife, Janey, Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Lott joined with them. Thelma Cottam accompanied husband, Doyle, to Provo where he will have gall bladder surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Rick Pruitt of Richfield brought their children and stayed at the Melvin Alvey home. Melvin took the grandchildren for horseback rides. Beryl Shurtz accompanied daughter, Marilyn and children to Salt Lake City for the missionary report of Carlyle's son, Randy, who just returned from the Costa Rica San Jose Mission. They met Marilyn's husband, Tom Jackson who went from Las Vegas through Ely for a pistol-shooting competition and on to Salt Lake City where all attended the Days of '47 celebration and rodeo. Iona Alvey has her sister, Lorna, her husband, C. M. Shelby and son, Steven of Redding, Calif, with her. Lorna has retired from teaching elementary school. Thelma Marsh' joined sister Virginia Bauer and Mr. and Mrs. Elihu Whatcott of Cedar Ctiy for the Church History Tour. They will visit Nauvoo, the pageant at Palmyra, N.Y,; tnd the Washington, D.C. Temple before returning. Work has begun on the new culinary water line which will provide water to the north side of the valley and the homes of Walt Acrey, Ron Brubaker and Harold Ford. There seems to be a great deal of enthusiasm in beautificatibn projects. The State Road people have been working on main street. Bishop Jerald Johnson has been assisting with cutting weeds on sidewalks. The home of Claron Griffin received a new coat of paint, Jed Smith's home new shingles, and the shop of Tony Alvey a new concrete floor. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Cowle3 enjoyed having daughter Colleen Imlay and granddaughter Frankie Lou Evans and shared them witn Idella Imlay, Daughter, Twila Michelangelo and her husband, John came to enjoy the celebration and share their time with Mr. and Mrs. Eric Woolsey. Sara Cowles and three sons divided their time between the Orvil Cowles and Chase Shurtz families. Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Coleman and Mr. and Mrs. Don Coleman were in St. Geroge seeing father, Parley Coleman who is hospitalized there. Dale Reynolds, Provo set up a tent on the lawn of his nephew, Wayne from which they travled to Posey Lake, the Barker, Hole-ln-the-Rock and visited with old friends and acquaintances here. Susan Wilson and son, Lenza went to Salt Lake City for her checkup. The Berlin Osborns have grandson, Nathan Osborn staying with them until school starts. He is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Osborn, Redmond. Mr. and Mrs. Freeland Alvey have had the three children of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde (Tcrri) Christensen at their home. Stratton and Cassidy have spent the past two weeks and sister, Corry, will join them from Cedar City where she visited her aunt Jo Ellyn. They lived in Douglas, Wyo. where father, Clyde is toolpusher for an oil rig. Orvil Cowles took wife, Lucille back to Salt Lake City for more treatments. Son, Ronald spent some time in Panguitch with sister Carolyn LeFevre and attended the LeFevre family reunion with her. Dentist appointments were interrupted and Dr. Harold Griffin's schedule changed, when the news came of an accident Involving his wife in Pine Creek Canyon. Nancy Griffin had returned to Posey Lake campground to pick up some tools for her husband when the accident happened. After making the necessary arrangements, Mrs. Griffin was taken to Garfield Memorial Hospital for a thorough examination. The mother of Jeff and Larry Miller brought their brother and his wife and. two children from Mesa, Ariz, for the celebration and to visit family members here. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Norman are preparing to move to Farmington, N.M. where he has employment on an oil rig, with Jimmy Woolsey and Weldo Woolsey. |
