Show Winners Listed In Rodeo At Escalante ESCALANTE Stand out stars at Saturday's Pioneer Days 1985 Rodeo were five-year-old exhibition barrel racers Darcy Alvey and Heather Spencer. The rodeos which had been scheduled as a two-day event for Friday and Saturday were rained out on Friday and both were rescheduled for Saturday afternoon and evening to make a full day of rodeo fun for Escalante residents and their guests from all over the state. The rodeos were sponsored by the Escalante Riding Club and the Escalante LDS Ward, with Arnold Alvey and Robert Liston In charge of planning. Capturing first place in bareback riding was Derrek Turley, with Keith Christensen taking second and Dave Sherod third. Calf roping honors went to first place winner Randy Bowler, second place winner Andy Lytle, and third place winner Jack Ickes. Betty Jo Christensen took first in breakaway roping and Mike Allred in saddle bronc riding. In the senior barrel races (16 and up), Gal Bowler was first place winner, Laura Lytle second and Lori Allred, third. Trisha Coughlin captured first place in the junior barrel races for participants under 16. In team roping, Bruce Taylor and Chad Hunter placed first, Tom Drake and Gary Coif placed second and Gary Coif and J. W. McAllister placed third. Troy Dennison took first place in bull riding, Neil Whitney took second place and Cory Smith took third. Darren Coughlin catpured first place in junior steer riding for contestants 16 and under. A $50 purse and belt buckles awaited winners in each event with six or more contestants entered.
