Show Otter Creek Offers Anglers Early Start Otter Creek Reservoir was one of four reservoirs opening April 14 under new Division of Wildlife Resources division affecting the four popular fishing spots which, in addition to Otter Creek, including Deer Creek, Minersville and Baker Reservoirs. Almost 200,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout have been stocked into Deer Creek Reservoir, according to DWR spokesman Glen Davis. "Most of the fish are 8-to 10-inch catchable rainbows, but we've also stocked a few bigger fish weighing up to five pounds," says Davis. He explained that the bigger fish are excess hatchery brood stock. Otter Creek and Minersville reservoirs also received both catchable and brood stock trout. Baker Reservoir, opening after a recent chemical treatment to remove rough fish, will receive catchables only. DWR Chief of Fisheries Bill Geer said the decision to open the four reservoirs early is part of a new effort to maximize fishing opportunity for Utah anglers. Regulations for the April 14 opener are identical to the regular season. The trout limit is eight fish. Anglers need a 1934 combination or fishing license as well as trout stamp. License fees remain unchanged from last year. Licenses and fishing regulations are available at all DWR offices and at most sporting goods stores. |
