Show Republicans Dominate Canditates' Filing Locally it appears that only Republicans will have a contest at local party conventions, with two posts to be essentially dettded at the August 21 primary unless valid write-in candidates sign up for the November 6 general election. At Monday's 5 p.m. filing deadline, only nine people had officially filed for public office, and only one of them was a Democrat, Two are challenging incumbent Garfield County Commissioner George Middleton in his bid for reelection to the four-year county commission post: Mayall Sawyer of Hatch and Thomas Hatch of Panguitch. Sawyer filed as a Democrat with both Middleton and Hatch filing as Republicans. Two are also challenging incumbent County Commissioner Guy Thompson, Henrieville: Garth Noyes, Ticaboo and Kent Wintch, Tropic. All three filed as Republicans. Filing for the Clerk-auditor post were Republicans Wayne Holman and Hazel Houston. Rick Swangcr filed for the Panguitch Precinct No. 2 school board post of Sam AHer '"it school board candidates have ' 1 June 27 to file. Posts in Precim 1, 2 and 3 will be open. Delegates at the county conventions will pare candidates down to one for each post for each party for the August 21 primary b- Jlot. |
