Show SUSC Agrees To Lease Land For Ski Area ; CEDAR CITY The Southern Utah State College Institutional Council approved the recommendation of a college committee permitting a proposed ski resort on mountain land owned by SUSC In Cedar Canyon. But the recommendation rejects the original plan of trading college property and substitutes the idea of leasing the college property to the resort developers. ; A request to use the land was Submitted last September by the Clark vestock Company of Cedar City, which has proposed the land trade, with the company receiving the college's mountain acreage. The committee report, which the Council approved, rejected the land trade proposal, but said the college might entertain the negotiation of a lease for a portion of the land the Gark Livestock Company had .requested. Even if a lease were agreed to, the .committee recommended, and the council agreed, that all frontage property adjacent to Utah Highway W4.be retained by the college, except for a right-of-way that would be needed for the proposed ski resort. If the lease proposal is pursued, a special negotiating -team, including .assistance from the Utah Attorney, General's office, would handle the 'actual lease negotiations. The council agreed that only the minimal number of acres necessary .for the operation of the resort be considered for lease and further insisted the college be assured the proposed resort be a quality facility. |
