Show Thompson Files For Utah State Senate Seat A Cedar City native who has been active in state and local politics and civic affairs announced his candidacy for state senator in District 29 at the courthouse in Pangutich on Tuesday afternoon. Republican Ronald Thompson will challenge incumbent Republican Ivan Matheson, also of Cedar City, who is currently serving his second term in the Utah State Senate. Thompson, a partner in the law firm of Thompson, Hughes and Reber in St. George, served as Washington County Attorney from 1975-78. He has been president of the Fifth District Bar Association since 1978. In the St. George area, Thompson has been active in the Quail Creek Project between St. George and Hurricane. He serves as district manager of the Washington County Water Conservancy District. Politically, he feds that the best way to increase funding of public education would be through expansion of the industrial tax base. He believes that the major state issis are education, water and natural resources, economic development and taxation. Thompson and his wife, Dorothy, are parents of four children. |
