Show I Inconsiderate Editor: For the past several months I have endeavored to receive permission to start a tourist park and campground one mile west of Tropic and because of the many agencies to get permission from and each doing their own "thing", we are presently suffering the pleasures of the newly formed Planning and Zoning commission. In fact, they tell us we are their first victim and maybe things will mellow out in 6 months. This form of bureaucracy makes a great financial unnecessary burden upon the people. We were on their agenda last evening at 7 p.m. at the Garfield County Courthouse. We waited and waited. We've had to wait a month for this meeting. Seeing there was no activity, we went over to theX Sheriff's Dept. to see if someone' there might have news what had happened to the Planning and. Zoning Commission. I met a deputy sheriff coming out to investigate an accident. To my surprise, he said he was the person I was to present my case to. I thought, how can one man represent the whole commission? He proceeded to tell us that the commission decided to meet at 1:00 p.m. because of some'1 problems. They forget to alert us to the change. I, myself, have served as an. elected official many years and have personal knowledge of the necessity to hold to the agenda, and if necessary to alert all concerned of any changes which should only be for an emergency. I had prepared drawings and a written page of covenants and specifications. He the Deputy Sheriff and members of the planning and zoning, and the building inspector, all of which is highly unethical, said "We are not interested in them!". These plans were sufficient in and of themselves with a few minor alterations to describe the project of campground. But they said "NO", they had to be more sophisticated and exacting, showing which trees and bushes, which hill and valley would be disturbed. These things change when you are actually working on a project involving a forest of trees. We wanted to preserve as much of the natural beauty as possible. They want us to hire a civil engineer again and to do the whole project over. If I proceed to his instruction it will cost thousands of dollars more and many months of time. This council should concern themselves with the health and welfare of the community, but not to the extent of robbing us of our constitutional rights, which tend to restrict progress. This waste of time and money could be better spent in making a ' more beautiful park for tourists and the local people to enjoy. Because of our experience with these bureaucratic agencies in the past, we have lost our desire to persue this undertaking, unless there are some big changes in policy. It is too difficult to spend so much time and effort in such useless unproductive demands of bureaucrats trying to satisfy their positions of power over the people. Brandt A. Child West Bountiful |
