Show Tropic Town Gets $2,000 State Grant TROPIC Tropic mayor Douglas Ahlstrom announced receipt of a $2000 grant through the Division of State Lands and Forestry which dispenses federal funds under the Utah State Department of Natural Resources and Energy. The grant funds derive from federal Rural Commmunity Fire Protection funds which are administered by the state. They are designed to assist rural communities in upgrading their fire ' fighting capacity in organizing, training and equipping their Are departments. To qualify, communities must have a population of less than 10,000; must have matching funds available; and must commit, the funds to organizing, equipping or training their departments. According to Tropic fire chief Ferrell Brinkerhoff, the town will order four air packs, two one and one-half inch nozzles and one two and one-half inch nozzles with the funds from the grant and the town's matching funds. Using funds received under . Garfield County's cooperative agreement with local communities) Tropic has been gradually upgrading its firefighting capacity. With county funds it will purchace additional equipment including protective clothing for its volunteer firefighters. |
