Show Bryce Canyon Fire District Formed BYRCE CANYON Bryce Canyon area business owners and residents have formed the Bryce Canyon Fire District after a meeting held recently with Garfield County Commissioners George Middleton and Guy Thompson. Commissioner George Middleton had called the special meeting to familiarize business owners and residents with the county's established fire plan and how it pertained to the tourist-oriented businesses of the Bryce Canyon area. Middleton explained to the group how the county had been divided into districts, each essentially adjacent to incorporated cities, except for such areas as Panguitch Lake and Bryce Canyon. Approximately one year ago each district had been allotted a portion of the county's $40,000 designated for firefighting in 1981. Of that amount, $8,000 had beenr.'et aside for the Bryce Canyon area which had yet to be organized. The county would contribute an additional $1,800 for 1982. In return, the area would need to organize and be responsible for fighting its own fires. Middleton pointed out that fire insurance rates in the area will go down once an established firefighting unit has been set up with manpower and proper equipment. |
