Show Apple Crop Ready at Capitol Reef CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK The apples are beginning to ripen at Capitol Reef National Park. There will be a large crop this year. Although they are ripening unevenly, over one-half of the apples should be ready to pick by October 14. Superintendent Derek O. Hambly announced that starting October 14, and continuing until the apples are harvested, at least one orchard will be open each day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The apples are available on a "pick your own" basis. Pickers are requested to please bring their own ladders. Some of the apples are high in the trees. Climbing the trees is not permitted for safety purposes and to minimize tree damage. Pickers should also bring their own containers. The price will be $6.00 a bushel. Please check at the visitor center or with a park ranger on orchards open for harvest. |
