Show Youngsters Gear For UP&L Energy Contest Mention trophies, tee-shirts, cash prizes and that seems to be a sure fire way of getting the attention of a classroom of youngsters at the end of a long hard school day. Such was the case for Utah Power and Light Company representative Leah Henrie Tuesday as she met with teachers and students both to explain the details of UP&L's second annual alternate energy contest now underway. Seventh, eighth and ninth grade students have been encouraged throughout southern Utah junior high and middle schools to enter the competition sponsored by the utility's Teliuride Division. Students are asked to enter projects depicting the use of an alternate source of energy. Wind-powered electric generators, solar earth homes and schneider-hydroelectric generators are examples of some of last year's entries. Objective of the contest according to UP&L customer service representative Tony Bell, is to "encourage conservation of conventional energy through utilization of alternate energy sources." "Utah Power encourages develop- ment of alternate renewable energy systems such as solar, geothermal, wind low-head hydro and garbage." Deadline for entering the contest is Feb. 1, 1983. First, second and third place winners will receive $100, $75 an $30 cash prizes, respectively, as well as trophies and ribbons.
