Show Escalante Band To Perform at BYU ESCALANTE The Escalante High School Band has received an invitation to march and compete in the annual ceremnies for the Brlgham Young University Homecoming game slated for Saturday, October 16. Directed by Madlyn Haws, the band is made up of 34 students ranging from 5th through 11th grade. The group will travel to Provo for two days of events where they will be judged on musical and marching skills. They will participate in the homecoming parade in Provo. Although they will be challenged by ; some of the top high school bands in Utah, the group will participate in a class for Judging based on school size. Even though they are a relatively new group, Director Haws says she expects "their strong spirit, dedication and enthusiasm" will sustain them during the challenging competition. Individual and collective accomplishments of the Escalante High School Band during the past two school seasons include 1st and 2nd place in the solo and ensemble competition at Snow College in 1900-81; second place in the Southern Utah State College Homecoming Parade at Cedar City 1981-82; and a first place trophy in the Escalante pioneer celebration this year. |
