Show Tropic Mayor Resigns Post TROPIC - Mayor Evan Chynoweth submitted his resignation at Friday night's meeting of the Tropic Town Council, citing an employment conflict with his mayoral responsibilities as the principal reason. Expressing his "deep reluctance" at having to resign the position to which he was elected just a year ago, Chynoweth said that his recent transfer to Fredonla, Ariz., with Kaibab Industries restricts his time in Tropic to brief periods on the weekend and he felt that he could not properly carry out his responsibilities as mayor with his time so limited. Council members accepted his resignation with regrets and agreed to meet for a special meeting the following week to appoint someone to fill the remaining 14 months until a new mayor can be elected at next year's municipal election. In other business, council members decided to consult an attorney regarding the quality of work performed under the Housing and Urban Development Community Block Grant. Council member Doug Ahlstrom said that he had not been permitted to participate in inspection on the final work performed on Tropic's streets under the grant. Ahlstrom, who is one of two council members responsible for streets, had been appointed by the council to participate in the inspection on repair work by the contractor on streets, Hurricane Sand and Gravel, put in last year under the grant! Fire chief Ferrell Brlnkerhoff discussed a training session for volunteer firemen tentatively scheduled for November 22, 23 and 24 and December 7, 8 and 9 in Henrieville. He listed several firefighting items needed to make the town's firefighting capacity more effective and council members agreed to purchase necessary nozzles, ladders and spotlights with the purchase of breathing apparatus deferred until next year's allotment of funds from the county. Council members hired Carla Ramsay as custodian for the Scout House at a monthly salary of $50. Council members decided that a water hookup may not be transferred from one property to another and costs of relocating on the original property was purchased for must be borne by the property owner. |
