Show Festivities Open New Cannonville Clinic CANNONVILLE - Two days of festivities marked the grand opening of the newly-opened Bryce Valley Clinic in Cannnonville. Friday night's VIP dinner was attended by some 40 area residents and hospital and health care dignitaries and Satruday's ribbon-cutting ceremonies were distinguished by talks from state, regional and local people involved in the halth care. On Friday evening, Jim Clarke, Cannonville communtiy project director and member of the Cannonville Town Board outlined for VIP dinner participants the history of the development of the Bryce Valley Clinic. Following dinner, visitors were given a special tour of the facility which includes a wood-panelled waiting room and office with complete furnishings, well-equipped laboratory similar to the Panguitch Garfield Memorial Clinic, two examining rooms and restroom, Saturday's afternoon program began with Garfield County Commissioner George Middleton who praised the efforts of Bryce Valley residents in prompting the clinic and pledged county support.. Garfield. .Memorial Hospital Administrator Bob Kruse said that he was surprised at how quickly Cannonville people moved to complete the clinic and was amazed at the support it had received. He said physicians who have served at the clinic thus far have reported a surprising number of patients utilizing its services. Doug Fonnesbeck, assistant vice president of Intermountain Health Care Systems Southern region and former administrator at Garfield Memorial Hospital, said that as he saw the community center being used for well-baby clinics, blood pressure clinics, and other health services several years ago, he had envisioned a full satellite clinic for Cannonville. Fonnesbeck introduced guest-of-honor Bill Coffman who serves as liaison between the Utah State Department of Health and local health departments, who lauded Garfield Memorial Hospital's system of satellite clinics as being a way whereby good health care can be made more accessible for those in rural areas. Coffman cut the ribbon officially marking the opening of the Bryce Valley Clinic after which tours were conducted by Maureen Mangum, nurse in charge, and, Betty Hendersonl receptionist. Regular clinic hours are from 1 until 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Mrs. Henderson will make appointments from 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning at 679-8545, or at her home in the evenings, after 6 p.m. at 679-8592. |
