Show Mrs. Shakcspear Called to Mission TROPIC - A fund raising dinner to honor Marian Shakcspear (Mrs. Vernal) will be held Thursday in Tropic at 6:30 p.m. at the Tropic LDS Ward. Mrs. Shakespear has been called to serve a mission for the LDS Church in the North Carolina Mission for one year. The mission will fulfill a lifelong dream and her only regret is that her husband did not live long enough to serve it with her. Born and reared in Otto, Wyoming, Mrs. Shakespear is a graduate of the University of Wyoming in Elementary Education. In 1942 she came to Tropic to visit a sister, Leona (Mrs. Reginald) Stewart and stayed to marry husband Vern. As her children came along, she quit teaching until the youngest of her seven was one year old when she returned to her profession. Needed for teaching at the secondary level, she pursued her secondary certificate and taught regularly until she retired a few years ago. Always active in the LDS Church, she especially cherishes the time she spent as a Spiritual Living Teacher in Relief Society. All seven of her children were present at her farewell testimonial on October 18. Ann (Mrs. Robert) Thornton, Fayettesville, North Carolina; Donald, Bear River City; Dean, Salt Lake City; Franz, Carl, Tropic; Palma (Mrs. Roland) Miles, Cedar Citv and Val, Cedar City. Mrs. Shakespear has 29 grandchildren. Marian (Mrs, Vernal) Shakfinear |
