Show Garfield County employee Karl Lowder, Hatch, was honored this week by RolloBrunson, district ranger, Dixie National Forest and by Garfield County Commission. Lowder's dual recognition resulted Karl Lowder, Garfield County road crew employee was honored this week both by the Forest Service and County, Forest Service Honors County Employee the Garfield County Commission for his efforts In fireflghting at fire near Panguitch Lake. s from action which he took at the recent Beaver Dam fire near Panguitch Lake which burned some 140 acres of forest. The man-caused fire had begun near some new construction and threatened to spread rapidly. Lowder was nearby operating a rubber tired front-end loader on county work and quickly brought his unlikely piece of firefighting equipment along a critical flank of the uncontrolled fire and was instrumental in bringing about control of the flames along that flank. "His timely actions prevented the spread of the fire into a vast area of timber, brush, and watershed" stated the letter of commendation from Brunson which accompanied the framed citation sent to commissioners to be presented to Lowder. |
