Show Participation High At Escalante Show An enthusiastic audience and 65 participants brought to a close 197B Garfield County Fair activities at the county fair horse show and rodeo in Escalante on Aug. 22 Winners in the showmanship were: Nadien Mvy (11-13 age group), Darrenatefljtnale Alvey First place winner vf tl9 M 19 age group was Wendy Birkemeyer, second, Michelle Liston and third, Cammie Federwisch. Winners in the western horsemanship were: first in the 10 and under, Lance Allen, first in 11-13 age group, Darren Gates; second Dale Alvey; winner of the 14 19 age group, Michelle Liston; second. Cammie Federwisch, third Wendy Birkemeyer. Winners of the barrels first in the 10 and under group, Trudylynn Birkemeyer; second, Lance Allen; third, Matt Liston and fourth Michael Bacon. First in the 14-19 age group. Michelle Liston, second Carol Gates; third, Cammie Federwisch; fourth, Joy Griffin. The sheep riders first grade and under each received a rosette ribbon for their efforts' The calf riding buckle was won by Bruce Roberts with each rider receiving a ribbon. Steer riding was won by Darren Gates, followed closely by Claude Jack Lyman and Carl Birkemeyer. A charlois-cross cow won the belt buckle for Gint Mecham, tailed by Kim Lyman and Link Chynoweth. All the rough stock riders were especially grateful to Dale Alvey for working up the area so well The Junior team roping division was won by Carl and Chuck Birkemeyer with Dale and Darrel Alvey coming in second and Darren and Pratt Gates third. In the senior team roping division Chuch and Wendy Birkemeyer won the buckle and Jay Brooks and Wendy Birkemeyer came in second. Pratt Gates and Robert Liston were horsemanship and showmanship judges. Areola Gates and Herm Federwisch were the timers and Arnold Alvey the flagman Myron and Keith Carter judged the rough stock Ixiuise Liston was the announcer. LaFaye Bailey presented ribbons, trophies and belt buckles "Without the help of all these volunteers and many more friends and relatives helping in the chutes and arena, we could never have sponsored a show of this type. Each and everyone is indispensible and we appreicate their efforts," said Trudy Birkemeyer, leader. She added she was glad the ambulance wasn't needed but appreciated Naomi and Hank Boulton for being on standby with it. Shellie Dumas was the photographer. Sponsors were Smith Alvey, Brooks Cattle Co., Darrel Alvey, Butch Bacon. Keith and Myron Carter gave free use of their stock for the rodeo.
