Show No Shortage For UP&L Customers Customers served by Utah Power and Light Co. continue to be urged to conserve energy, but company officials to not foresee any power shortages for their customers in the immediate future. Grant Pendleton, public relations director for the firm told The News that sometime next month, testing on the new 400 megawatt coal-fired generating unit In Emery County will begin and by next summer the unit at the Huntington generating plant which blew up last fall, will be back in operation. "This means we will add 800 megawatts to our system, bringing to 2200 magawatts being generated by the company," Pendleton said. He said at the present time power is being purchased as needed from various sources until the additional generators are in service. Because of the lack of water in the Oregon, Washington, Montana and California area, power from the Northwest Power Pool will probably not be available for purchase by the company this year as in the past. However, Pendleton said that the company's generating capacity will take care of needs for the next year .without having to buy additional power. |
