Carpentry Projects Near Finish at Escalante High projects have been completed this year in the vocational carpentry class taught by Dennis Lott of Escalante. Six boys are participating in the special two-hour class, including Kenneth Shurtz, Sherman Wilson, Clayne Coleman, Scott Steed, Sam Steed and Brent Spencer. The first project completed this year is a 12 x 24 foot shed made for Mrs. Mary Kazan, the second shed an 8 x 8 foot, is being purchased by Garfield County School District. The people furnish the materials and enough money to take care of expenses for driving when the project is built outside of the classroom, which most of the projects in this class are. Mr. Lott said they have or' ders for many other projects, that they would get to them as quickly as possible. He also stated that this class was begun two years ago. The goal eventually, Mr. Lott said is to build a small house for someone. Besides this class, Mr. Lott is also involved in a shop class which includes leather craft and wood work and is attended not only by boys but also 12 girls, seniors and juniors. He also mentioned that one girl, Wendy Berkemeyer is in his drafting class. He said the girls seem more cnccerned about the little things. The main projects completed by girls either this year or within the tree years Mr. Lott has taught both girls and boys, have been decon benches, which are cedar chests with a seat on top, shadow boxes, , canister sets, regular cedar chests, doll cradles, book cases 1 and cupboard shelves. , |
