Show ; Title I Parents Visit Escalante Elementary School ESC ALANTE Officers of .the Title I Parent Association !A Committee visited the Escalante Elementary School Title I reading program. The ' visitors were, Mrs. Helen Ri&her, committee chairman and Sue Mosier, secretary. They reported that the program was preceeding very well and that the students are fortunate to have a specialized reading curriculum to help them gain the many skills they need to become good readers. The teachers involved in the Title I program are Mrs. Iona Alvey and Mrs. Rula Spencer. They teach two reading classes each day in which 14 students receive special help with problems related to reading. These students are chosen from grades three through six. The PAC committee also visited high school title I classes under the direction of Sharon Dale Marsh. They said the program was very impressive. One thing, they thought, that would improve it was to get some higi: interest-low level books for the students to read along with their other classroom materials. The students are chosen from grades seven through nine by testing and evaluation. |
