Show 200 Pounder Caught In ce on Panguitch Lake Even though fishing season was over, the largest catch of the year was made last Thursday at Pangultch Lake. A- large buck deer' became stranded in the middle of the 1 lake and had to be assisted to shore by local conservation officers, Norman McKee and Brent Christensen. According to McKee, Thursday morning he received a call from Bud Bowman that a 1 large buck had fallen partially through the ice in the middle of the lake. After closer observation with a spotting scope, it was determined that the deer had fallen on the glassy Ice and could not regain its footing. Occasionally the deer would struggle in an attempt to stand up. Brent 'Christensen of Or-deville was called to assist in retrieving the deer. A little apprehensive about the con- dition of the new ice, the two men carried along 2x4 boards for additional safety. The buck appeared very exhausted in its struggles on the- ice which may have lasted a day or more. On the shore, the deer was left to regain it's strength and overcome the trauma of the event. However, when McKee checked the area Friday morning, the deer was found dead. Apparently, the long exposure and struggle on the ice was too much to overcome. What was the buck doing in the middle.of the lake? McKee says he doesn't know, as no ice skates or fishing pole were found |
