Show "Dr. Duggins Day" Panguitch City councilmen will sponsor a Dr. Sims E. Duggins Day. Dr. Duggins has devoted his life practicing in Garfield County and Panguitch City, Mrs. LaRae Williams was given approval to go ahead and plan this program. Bill Lawson was present representing the Utah State Board of Health. He explained that the time was drawing near when Panguitch City should close their old existing dump and go exclusively to the sanitary land fill method. The mayor and council explained to Mr. Lawson some of the problems that businesses have without existing garbage pickupj. Mr. Lawson said he would meet with the county and see if these problems could be solved. Bonnie Bulkley and Gloria Houston were present representing the Junior Senior Class of 76-77 in connectioin with the Fourth of July celebration. The following program was presented to the council for approval. July 3 Rodeo at 8 p.m. at the rodeo grounds. July 4 Fireworks at the rodeo grounds. (Continued on Pii 2) Plans Made for Dr. Ducgins Day (Cenlinnd from Pift 1) JulyS Parade at 10 a.m., 12 noon, lunch, 2 p.m. races of all kinds, 10 p.m., dance at high school gym. Following the parade, bicentennial program and variety show at Panguitch North Ward Church is being held. The Panguitch City Council will donate $250.00 to the Senior class to help defray expenses plus purchasing fireworks. Larry Bledsoe representing Call Engineering was present to discuss improvements on the culinary water system, He explained that interest free loans are available from the Utah Water Resource Board for additional storage and feed lines. The cost for filling out the papers requesting such a loan would be $200.00. The council authorized Call Engineering to submit the application for culinary water improvement for additional storage and additional feeder mains into Panguitch City. Application will be based on the use of cast iron pipe. Mayor Wallace G. Lee was authorized by the council to write a letter to the Division of Health in Salt Lake City requesting permission to be placed on the state priority list for obtaining an ERA grant fund for construction of a sewer system for Panguitch City. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne. Miller were present and asked for permission to place a mobile home on a lot behind the home of Mr. Ned Miller. Mr. Miller plans on putting this on a permanent foundation and enlarging the mobile home. Due to the fact this is against the mobile home ordinance, Mr. Miller was advised to meet with the board of adjustment for further recommendations. Dennis Orton, John Yardley and Kay Englestead were present to discuss the overall usage of electrical power at the softball park and rodeo grounds. They explained that the overall cost for power would run approximately $700 per year with an estimated cost for the balance of this summer at $300. The council recommended these Individuals to go ahead and finish their program and then revaluate the expense next year. Panguitch City sponsored one boy to Boy's State at $40, which was given to James F. Yardley t for the American Legion. The council approved a transfer of $4,800 from the Water Deparmtnet Fund to the TV Fund and $2,600 from the Water Department to the Garbage Department to cover depleted funds In these departments. May 25 at regular city council meeting a special hearing will be conducted concerning a community development block grant which Is being submitted to the U.S. Department of housing and urban deveiop-mewnt for the purposes of supplying low Income and moderate housing units for the elderly and handicapped In Panguitch City. In conjunction with the application and planning for the grant, a community development plan will be established. The city council invites all interested citizens to the special hearing and desires Input on items and program that the community needs to develop. Among items to be considered will be city recreation facilities, Main Street renovation and public swimming pool, etc. |
