Show Milford Dumps Bobcats In Region Eight Round Piute, Milford, Enterprise, Valley, Beaver and Kanab racked up Region Eight 1-A cage wins Friday night as cage wars in that division moved into further rounds. Milford had little trouble subduing Panguitch as. .the Tigers rolled up a 64-36 win behind the team efforts of Milford, with 11 players hitting the scoring column. Milford held the Bobcats to three points in the first quarter, then moved on to hold the lead and keep It throughout the game. Allan Mater and Kevin Barnes were high scorers for the winners with 12 points each. However, Gary Church with IS and Jeff Owens with 10 led the Bobcats. In other league games, Piute tripped Enterprise 58-53 to keep its league record clean, while Valley topped Parowan 55-44; Beaver beat Escalante 67-54 and Kanab slipped by Bryce Valley 70-69. Kanab's good bench strength kept them In the running against Bryce Valley, even though the Mustangs trailed only 31-30 at the half. Lex Chamberlain hit 22 for Kanab and Klrby Erickcon added 13 more, while Layne LeFevre tanked 21 and Monte Twitchell made 16 for the losers. In the final two minutes of play, Piute managed to slide ahead of Enterprise and then wrap up the game 56-53. Mike Dallon was the big gun for the Thunderblrds, pouring In 27 points. However, brothers Richard and Larry Phelps paced Enterprise with 16 and 13 points respectively. In the Escalante-Beaver contest, the Moquies had shooting trouble in the first half and foul problems in the final few minutes which seemed to be a major factor in their loss to Beaver. Escalante shot only 20-percent In the first half, leaving a 21-21 gap. Then with four minutes to play, Escalante closed the gap to only four points difference, but foul trouble caught up with them and the Beavers managed to pull It out of the fire. Dean Eyre with 22 and Gary Gillins with 18 were high for Beaver while Dal Listen and Slone Porter were high for the losing Escalante squad with 12 each. In the other Class 1-A game, Valley's win over Parowan was attributed mainly to the fine shooting of Brad Lamb, who tanked 18 points and Kyle Sorensen added 12 for the winners. Ted Cook with 14 was high for the losers. |
