Show Escalante ChiFChdt FAY ALVEY , In spite of the cold dry weather the roses are beautiful. People are still having flu in every degree, from croupe to losing their voices entirely, and even pneumonia, but luckily no casualties. Some folks blamed the Seniors for the chit chat not making it that week, but they were entirely innocent, my writings for them was done before and after sending the news, the fault was with the postal service. My working so hard for a perfect record was all flubbed up. The cattlemen are all in a dither trying to get the critters moved to the summer range, the feed is all burning up and their permits have been drastically cut, "there ain't no justice in this here land!" Allen Pollock is home from the hospital, he and La-vina are both ailing but were cheered by the prospects of son Guy staying with them for a week while working on the state road. Dawn Griffin took son Brian to Salt Lake for medical treat-, ment and corrective surgery; Vergene Porter was taken out with back trouble but brought back. Ora Schow came from North Dakota to bring daughter Sharon Carlson and son back so they would be here when her husband Bob came from Alaska. The Claron Griffins had Jim and Janet Spencer, Dennis and Pauline Lott and children here, of course Jim and Janet were shared with the Clyde Spencers. The Hode Alveys had a visit from Venice and Merl Hansen and family of Salt Lake and Thelma Smith and boys of Henrieville. They got word that son Boyd and Kay Gates had their papers to be shipped to Germany. Those we heard of having business in Pan-guitch were Clyde Spencer, Dee Haws, Sariah, James and Deon Alvey, Gwen and Blaine Lyman, Millie and Vern Arth-ur Mclnelly, Flora Lelbenguth, Dale and Lillian Lyman, Clclla Woolsey, Lavlna Pollock, Nell and Theo Barker, Stams and Faun Mecham, Vergene Porter and Arnold Alvey. Darrell Alvey and Emmorn Dodds had hone business in Marysvale and Salina. Bud Gates came from Salt Lake to rido for cattle, he got a honey of a sunburn. Wanles and De- na Alvey came from Arizona to occupy their trailer house for awhile. Arnold and Zella Alvey have Blaine and Velma Durant and family, Gail Stone-hocker, her husband and family here from Salt Lake. Deray and Lizzie Porter took a short vacation in the Northern part of the state. The Blood Bank was held as scheduled with 40 donors, some were turned down because they were too light, none were overweight, Golda Cottam because her baby lacked 3 days of being a year old, she would not have minded but they made her finger sore before telling her, she did get a consolation doughnut and drink. Whitey and Maralda Porter went to Arizona for the graduation exercises of grandson Steven King. Former residents Lytho and Ilene Mclnelly of San Diego, Calif, were here visltine relatives and old friends and making new friends. Mary Ellen Coleman had other visitors besides the Mclnellys, Dollie Mulford and a daughter in law, Thora, Ward's wife, and three kids of Wayne County, Donna Rae and Joe Barker of Monroe. Max Porter and kids were here from Kearns. The Randal Lymans had a visit from Jim and Deanna Greer and three kids from Aur rora, Illinois. Visitors from Panguitch were Champ and Af ton Church and Pat Dix. Iris Porter has Leda and Hen Emery here from Salt Lake. Earl and Nethella Woolsey had business in Salt Lake. MaeVonn Taylor and Beth Burr went to Richfield. Sox Spencer got. a timber cutting contract in the Vernal area, his sons Kevin and Brad accompanied him. Vincent Spencer and son Ronald have a contract on Cedar Mountain near Swain's Creek. Part of Yukon Norman's kid3 are visiting relatives in Kingston. Kenny Pratt was here from Salt Lake. Collegq kids and school teachers we noticed here were Carlyls Shurtz and family, Lana Alvey, Lana Liston, David Ray and Susan Shurtz and Marva Moun-teer. John and Lola Zenz had Bert and Bea Wilcox from Sunnyvale, Calif;,' Lola guided them to tho scenic attractions with which they were very (continued inside) ESCALANTE (continued) thrilled. Lola, went to Panguitch for the thousand mile checkup on her new teeth. The Democrats going to Panguitch for the county convention were Daniel and Orilla, Lucile and Caroline Cowles, Coleen and Frankle Lou Im-lay, Sariah Alvey, Nethella Woolsey, Ardis Christensen, Harvey and Eva Dean Liston, Ott and Hilda Roundy. Ed Lay had son Hazen and two of his children, Cray and Deanna, his wife and rest stayed in Par-owan with her folks. Deann stayed here for an extended visit. Hal and Geneal Shurtz went to Salt Lake where they went through the temple with Roy and Verl Hardwjck and family, Carol's husband, Lee Harlem is a .convert but they were all there. All of Verl's brothers and sisters except Emmorn were there, and Roy's brother George and wife were with them. Hal stayed to summer school, he has classes at the BYU and University of Utah. Geneal visited Marie and Kenneth Griffin in Provo. In Sacrament meeting Sunday It was High Council day, the South ward listened to Earl Woolsey and Pres. J. Clyde Spencer; the North ward speakers did not show up so they had opening exercises and a special number, a song by Grena Mclnelly and Linda Alvey. and dismissed, the kids thought it was a great meeting and dared say so. William Mitchell is back home after visiting family members north. Lucile Cowles had a busy night holding 4H and Primary preparation meeting, but not the same time. Those we heard of going to Henrieville for funeral services of Mrs. Barker were Mary Ellen Coleman, Eliza Mclnelly, Kate Porter, Glover and Grov-er Smith, Nellie Bailey, Larry and Billie Chynoweth, Marie Durfey. Theo and Nell Barker planned to attend but were held up in Panguitch where Nell had a checkup. They came home with a different car, the old one had some frightening ailments. Valley Finance meeting was held here Sunday with the officials having dinner at the Blake Robinson home, the Don' Swapps came from. Kanab and the Mc-Kinley MorreUs from Junction. U you meet an individual who does not have a smile, the poor guy is quite out of luck so give him yours awhile. |
