Show A GHASTLY DISCOVERY. The Remains of a Human Being Unearthed Un-earthed on George Peay's Farm. On Thursday afternoon Mr. George Peay of this city, with his sons, was scraping down a knoll on his land in the west part of town, when suddenly he came across the end of what appeared ap-peared to be a box. Proceeding cautiously cau-tiously hn soon unearthed what proved to be a rudeh constructed coffin made of rough pine boards, with cedar ends. Inside of this were the remains of what Dr. Smart pronounces to hare been anold man. There were qu:te a profusion of arrow-heads with the body, which must have been the instruments in-struments of death. Among the remnants of wearing apparel strewn around were sever:'.' old-fashioned bone buttons and one large pearl button but-ton about the size of a half-dollar piece. There was also the peak of a cap, which, with one or two buttons covered with gilt cloth, would lead a person to the conclusion that tin? rr-naaics rr-naaics must haebeen those of a s-ol-dier. Mr. Peay has owned the Iand on which the body was interred for the last thirty years, and hence the buri;;l must have been made at least half a century ago. j |
