Show -N E W S Spanish Fork SFHS seniors encouraged SFHS NHS bringing to apply for scholarships cheer to local families Covering what matters most B6 • WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2008 Josie Osborn SFHS Spanish Fork High School's National Honors Society (NHS) has been busy during this month of December. Throughout the week before Christmas break, NHS conducted a few different projects in hopes of assisting the school as well as our community. Members of the club took part in delivering Character Counts Cards to each classroom in the high school which conveyed an inspirational message saying, "Enjoy the journey, enjoy every moment, and quit worrying about winning and losing," MattBiondi. Along with this, they gave each faculty member a Christmas gift in the form of a new years calendar in sign of appreciation for all of their efforts to promote the well being of their students. Last but certainly not least, the NHS Club took part in a Sub for Santa project in which the students decided to help ten different children from two different families here in our area. They've collected a wish list from each child, and will make purchases towards these children's Christmas after which, the gifts will be presented to each family. "NHS is a great organization," says Kristy Harding, "because it allows student to get active in school and in the community." Stuffed animal donations exceeded expectations at SFHS. Teddy bears were everywhere at Spanish Fork High School as the Letterman's Club and Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Club worked together to collect stuffed animals to give to children who have been abused. Over 900 stuffed animals were donated to the cause as generous students found new and slightly used furry creatures to comfort those who need something to love when they feel alone. Cami Robinson mentioned, "I think this was a good idea to give stuffed animals to the kids who feel alone. I think we were very productive in what we did, and we all had fun. spending time together and helping others." SFHS Counselors came to the senior English classes to remind students of a myriad of sources to investigate as they plan for their future. Scholarships of every kind are available if students will only take the time to apply. Counselors" did a great job at answering questions that students had. Students are all looking for ways to save money, yet many want to go to college. There are many scholarships out there. The following internet sites were offered as possible places to go for sources. Parents are encouraged to help students find ways of going to college with- out paying. If there are any questions, please call the Counseling Center at Spanish Fork High School, 798-4060. Windows on the Workplace help students learn about lawyers Rachel Marie Kimball SFHS 'On Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, the counseling center hosted Mr. Jon Jaussi from Freedom Legal. Mr. Jaussi is a lawyer who owns his own business in Payson. He started off with explaining the process, the schooling, and everything you need to do to complete the steps to become a lawyer. There are so many different types of lawyers out there, and he decided to go into business law. So when a person charges too much to a credit card, he will be there for the business/company to help get that money. At anytime though, he could turn around and do crime, or any other type of law. This was one major reason he enjoyed his job. Instead of going to work DKDAVISPHOTOGRAPHY.COM 801.318.9907 SPECIALIZING IN GRUNGE PHOTOGRAPHY for someone after graduating from law school, Jaussi started his own business. He is his own boss but at the same time, his clients are his boss. Luckily he gets to choose them. Overall, becoming a lawyer seems like a very promising, and enjoyable career (for those that enjoy law). Jaussi gave so much information that helped everyone that was there. |
