On Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, some athletes made a delivery of a different kind. Members of the SFHS Letterman's Club delivered teddy bears and stuffed animals to the Bank of American Fork as i part of the bank's "Project Teddy Bear." Now in its ninth year, Project Teddy Bear collects teddy bears and other stuffed animals to give to the Family Support and Treatment Center in Orem and the Family Support Center in Midvale. These centers focus on preventing and treating child abuse. The stuffed animals provide comfort for children who have been abused. "It's gotten so big, it's just become a great deal for our banks," said Bank of American Fork's Todd Harrison. Harrison hooked up with long-time friend and former teammate Doug Snell, athletic director at SFHS, to get the Letterman's Club involved in the project. The Letterman's Club is a service organization made up of SFHS athletes, with a goal of giving back to the community. Under the direction of counselors Alan Albright and Sharla Barber, the athletes organized collection efforts to bring in over 900 stuffed animals. The Spanish Fork branch also collected 532 stuffed animals, to make a total of 1,438 from Spanish Fork. All of the donations will now be delivered to the main branch in American Fork. |
